Underprivileged students in Van Dinh Commune receive gifts on the occasion of the Humanitarian Month 2026.
The action is the response to the appeal of the Vietnam Fatherland Front's Central Committee, the Humanitarian Month implementation plan of the Vietnam Red Cross Society and the Hanoi People's Committee.
Opening this year's Humanitarian Month activities, at the National Humanitarian Month's Launch Ceremony, organized by the Vietnam Red Cross Society on April 28, the Hanoi Red Cross Society mobilized and encouraged 500 residents of the capital to participate in a blood donation event.
As a result, the society collected 468 units of blood. In addition, the Hanoi Red Cross Society connected residents with program activities and gift distribution at the Humanitarian Market.
On the same day, in Van Dinh Commune, the Hanoi Red Cross Society organized the city's Humanitarian Month Launch Ceremony featuring a wide range of meaningful activities.
Among them was the organization of a "Compassion Day" that included a series of events such as breaking ground for a Red Cross house valued at VND80 million ($3,040), presenting 100 gifts worth VND1 million ($38) each, donating nine tablet computers and providing free medical examinations, consultations and medicine to 120 disadvantaged individuals.
In cooperation with organizations and businesses, the society also awarded 20 scholarships to financially disadvantaged university students, each valued at VND10 million ($380).

Volunteer blood donation activities across the city have also received strong participation from steering committees for blood donation campaigns, local Red Cross organizations and community blood donation events. From May 1 to May 21 alone, more than 21,400 units of blood were collected.
Following the citywide launch ceremony, Red Cross branches in wards and communes continued organizing many meaningful activities throughout early May to implement humanitarian initiatives at the grassroots level.
With the support and direction of Party committees and local authorities, programs have been carried out in practical ways tailored to the needs of each locality.
Volunteer blood donation drives attracted large numbers of participants, while programs providing gifts, livelihood support for disadvantaged households, home repairs for families facing exceptional hardship and free meals for patients were regularly organized.
Each activity may seem modest on its own, but together, supported by thousands of compassionate individuals, they have created a meaningful Humanitarian Month across the capital.
According to a preliminary report, as of May 10, a total of 9,029 people had received assistance during Humanitarian Month, with a combined value exceeding VND3.3 billion ($125,400).
These acts of kindness have been made possible through the generous support and contributions of organizations, businesses and philanthropists participating in the society's activities.

Continuing the journey of compassion, from May 26 to May 28, the Hanoi Red Cross Society will simultaneously organize visits and gift presentations at six centers caring for people with meritorious service, vulnerable individuals and other beneficiaries across the city.
This will be followed by the "Safety for Poor and Disadvantaged Fishermen" program in Nghe An Province.
To ensure Humanitarian Month continues to spread widely beyond May, the society hopes to receive even more support from generous individuals and organizations willing to join in sharing love and compassion, because once kindness is spread, every day can become a day of giving.
The practical efforts of Red Cross organizations throughout Hanoi have contributed to social welfare, strengthened community solidarity and compassion, and supported the development of a civilized, cultured and happy capital city.
The society is always ready to receive support, goodwill and contributions from the community.
