Founded in 1995, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly has grown into a national organization representing, caring for, and protecting the rights and interests of elderly people throughout Vietnam.
Over the years, the association has inspired its members to uphold the resilient spirit of the Dien Hong Conference under the Tran Dynasty and the legacy of the National Salvation Elderly Association, founded by President Ho Chi Minh.
Its members have remained a vital social force, demonstrating unwavering loyalty to the nation and the Party, contributing significantly to social welfare policies, caring for vulnerable populations, and participating in all aspects of national development and defense.
For 84 years, Vietnam's elderly have remained steadfast in their loyalty to the Party and President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary cause. They have inspired younger generations to protect and build the nation into a stronger and more prosperous homeland.
In recognition of these contributions, the Party and State have honored the Vietnam Association of the Elderly with the Gold Star Order and First-Class Labor Medal. The Party Central Committee has also presented a banner inscribed with the phrase: "The older the age, the higher the spirit – exemplary role models in the cause of building and defending the nation."
Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien emphasized the Vietnamese tradition of honoring the elderly.
He said that elderly people are a valuable asset to society, to every family, and every clan, noting their wisdom, experience, and dedication as a strong source of spiritual support for families and communities.
He praised the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and elderly people nationwide for their impressive and commendable achievements.
The president urged Party committees, governments, the Fatherland Front, mass organizations, and the association chapters at all levels to thoroughly implement the consistent policy of recognizing the elderly as an important political and social force in building and defending the nation.
Chien also called on the association to develop practical and feasible solutions to successfully implement the "Elderly Strategy to 2035, with a vision to 2045" and the project "Elderly Participation in Digital Transformation, Green Transition, Startups, and Job Creation."
He also suggested that the association work closely with relevant agencies to review the implementation of Directive 59-CT/TW of the Party Secretariat on caring for the elderly, and to propose amendments to the Law on the Elderly to create a better legal framework and policies for its activities, ensuring stronger protection, care, and development of elderly resources.
The association president stressed the need to identify and honor outstanding examples of elderly people in all areas of society, so they can continue to play a positive role in national development.
Chien affirmed that the Party, State, and society always cherish and appreciate the immense contributions of elderly people to the struggle for national liberation and the building and defense of the country.
He expressed his hope that senior citizens will continue to uphold the "High Age, Bright Example" tradition and the "Dien Hong Spirit", contributing their wisdom and efforts to realizing the vision of a peaceful, independent, united, democratic, and prosperous Vietnam as envisioned by President Ho Chi Minh.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Association of the Elderly received the First-Class Labor Medal by the President. The association also launched the humanitarian program "Bright Eyes for the Elderly."
