Denmark was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam on November 25, 1971. The two countries established a Strategic Partnership on climate change, energy, environment and green growth in 2011 and upgraded the relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership in 2013.
Cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark has grown significantly and a new milestone was reached on November 1, 2023 when the two prime ministers held a virtual meeting and adopted a Joint Statement establishing the Vietnam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership. During the visit to the Embassy of Vietnam in Copenhagen, Ambassador Nguyen Le Thanh said the Vietnamese community in Denmark now numbers about 15,000 people and continues to grow.
The Ambassador said the community is united, hardworking, well-integrated and remains closely connected to the homeland. He expressed hope that Hanoi would facilitate sending an art troupe to perform for the overseas community during the 2026 Lunar New Year.
Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen outlined key developments in Hanoi's socio-economic progress. The city is pushing forward with its green transition in both public and private transport and accelerating the metro system to complete the public transport network.

Hanoi is also working to achieve its growth target of 8.5 percent in 2025 and move toward double digit growth in the following years. He asked the Embassy of Vietnam in Denmark to continue serving as a bridge to strengthen cooperation between Hanoi and Danish localities.
In response to the Ambassador's request, he assigned the Office of the Hanoi People's Committee to work with the Department of Culture and Sports and city theaters to organize a cultural delegation to perform for the overseas community during the upcoming Lunar New Year. On November 19, he attended the Vietnam Europe Tourism Promotion Program organized by Vietnam Airlines and Vietnamese tourism agencies in cooperation with Nordic partners.
The event marked an important step in expanding air connectivity, tourism and trade between Vietnam and Northern Europe. It also reaffirmed Vietnam Airlines' leading role in developing international routes.
Later the same day, he witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism cooperation between Saigontourist Group, Vietnam Airlines and Nordic Travel Associates. He then attended the event "Vietnam Every Moment is a New Discovery" held at the Embassy of Vietnam in Denmark.
The program attracted more than 50 Vietnamese and Danish businesses. The Hanoi delegation met Danish enterprises and partners to promote cooperation in investment, trade, tourism and green transition.
At the event, Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen delivered a keynote speech highlighting Hanoi's investment, trade and tourism potential. He discussed major urban challenges such as flooding, environmental issues and traffic congestion.
He said Hanoi will continue promoting economic growth and investment attraction. He expressed hope that Vietnamese and Danish businesses will strengthen cooperation, especially in high technology, tourism development and trade, and affirmed that Hanoi is committed to creating favorable conditions for Danish companies.
The working delegation visited Norway from November 20 to 23, 2025.
Since Vietnam and Norway established diplomatic relations on November 25, 1971, bilateral ties have continued to expand. Two way trade exceeds US$450 million, including more than $250 million in Norwegian seafood exports to Vietnam, up 16 percent with salmon accounting for 30 percent.
Senior leaders of both countries support early completion of negotiations on the Vietnam EFTA Free Trade Agreement. Norway currently has 56 direct investment projects in Vietnam with nearly $200 million in registered capital.
In Oslo, Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen met with city leaders to promote cooperation in tourism and green transition. The delegation participated in Hanoi's investment, trade and tourism promotion conference and met Norwegian partners in sustainable tourism, green technology and smart urban development.
They also worked with Innovation Norway on promoting trade and tourism cooperation and met with Oslo's public transport authority Ruter AS on smart mobility and green transition. The delegation also visited the Embassy of Vietnam in Norway.
The working delegation visited Sweden from November 23 to 25, 2025.
Sweden was the first Western country to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam in 1969 and supported Vietnam's Doi Moi reforms in the early years. Sweden currently ranks 29th among 149 countries and territories investing in Vietnam with 111 valid projects and about $743 million in registered capital.
In Stockholm, Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen met with the City Council to promote cooperation in tourism and green transition. The delegation attended Hanoi's investment, trade and tourism promotion conference and met Swedish partners.
They also worked with representatives of Business Sweden and the Department of Trade Policy and Promotion under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden. The delegation visited the Embassy of Vietnam in Stockholm.
Ambassador Tran Van Tuan said Sweden is strong in science, innovation and medicine and can support Vietnam and Hanoi in nuclear power technology, waste-to-energy solutions and the circular economy. He said Sweden faces a labor shortage and the two sides could explore cooperation in this area.
He suggested that Hanoi identify specific areas of collaboration and provide contact points for the embassy to facilitate connections. He also expressed hope that the Hanoi Drama Theater would have the opportunity to perform for the Vietnamese community in Sweden.
Vice Chairman Nguyen Manh Quyen welcomed the suggestions and said the Embassy of Vietnam in Sweden should continue serving as a bridge to strengthen ties between Hanoi and Swedish localities. He emphasized the importance of delegation exchanges and people to people cooperation.
He encouraged efforts to formalize cooperation agreements between Hanoi and Swedish localities in the proposed priority areas. He also assigned the Office of the Hanoi People's Committee to work with the Department of Culture and Sports and the Hanoi Drama Theater to organize an art delegation to perform for the overseas community.
The working visit to Denmark, Norway and Sweden concluded with positive results. The activities helped strengthen Hanoi's cooperation with localities in the three Nordic countries and created new opportunities for businesses and investors.
The delegation built new partnerships and reaffirmed Hanoi's position among international friends. The visit provided a foundation for deeper cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark, Vietnam and Norway and Vietnam and Sweden and reflected the spirit of friendship, cooperation and sustainable development.
These results will guide future cooperation and contribute to strengthening Hanoi's relations with its Nordic partners.
