Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Dai Thang has signed Plan No. 173/KH-UBND, dated April 28, 2026, on the organization of the “Second Thang Long–Hanoi Festival 2026.”
The festival aims to honor and promote the historical and cultural values of Thang Long–Hanoi, reinforcing the capital’s status as a thousand-year heritage city where identity converges and creativity spreads, while strengthening its role as a major cultural center and driver of cultural industries.
This initiative contributes to realizing targets set out in Action Program No. 08-CTr/TU of the Hanoi Party Committee for the Politburo’s Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW on developing Vietnamese culture and Resolution No. 02-NQ/TW on building and developing Hanoi in a new era.
The festival will introduce outstanding tangible and intangible cultural heritage values of Hanoi to domestic and international audiences, promote cultural exchange, and create a platform for cooperation among localities, countries, and cultural organizations, fostering innovation and new cultural products.
The program also aims to stimulate tourism, promote socio-economic development, develop distinctive cultural and festival products under the Hanoi brand, and position the capital internationally as a destination of heritage, identity, creativity, and integration.
The festival, themed “Heritage Flow,” will take place on September 11, 2026, at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, in which various activities like special opening art program, contemporary music performances, artistic exchange programs, a fashion show titled “The Colors of Hanoi,” and a ceramic sound art performance will be organized.
The event will be organized by the city's Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi, with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports as the lead organizer.
Additional activities include exhibitions, heritage experience programs, displays of traditional craft village products, intangible cultural performances, and the stage production “Thang Long Royal Feast.” The city also directs the development of a multi-layered communication campaign that blends thousand-year heritage values with modern creativity.
Through bilingual Vietnamese–English messaging, the festival will tell the story of a capital defined by heritage, identity, creativity, and integration, while enhancing Hanoi’s cultural image globally.
Communication efforts will be implemented across central and local media, digital platforms, international news agencies, airline channels, including Vietnam Airlines, and overseas promotion activities.
Community communication initiatives will also be strengthened to expand outreach, foster public pride, and encourage participation, alongside the development of an official festival website.
The Hanoi People’s Committee assigns the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports as the standing agency responsible for advising on and organizing all program components and preparing the festival plan.
The department is responsible for content, overall scripting, procedures, quality, progress, and compliance with legal regulations.
It will also lead the production of documentaries, video content, and visual materials, while applying advanced stage technologies such as 3D mapping, augmented reality, holographic projection, and other innovations to match the scale of the event.
The department will develop and implement communication strategies before, during, and after the festival, and coordinate with media agencies to promote the event across platforms.
