Tran Dinh Quan, a worker at Noi Bai Commune, receives gift from the commune Labor Union.
On May 5, in practical response to Workers' Month 2026, the Hanoi Federation of Labor coordinated with the Noi Bai Commune Trade Union to present funding support for repairing a "Union Shelter" home for a worker facing difficult circumstances.
The beneficiary was the family of Tran Dinh Quan, a union member of Xuan Hoa Construction Ceramics Joint Stock Company, whose home had severely deteriorated, greatly affecting daily life and living conditions, especially during the rainy and storm season.
Quan's family has two school-age children, while household expenses remain high. His wife works freelance jobs and often travels far from home for work, making their circumstances even more difficult.
Understanding the family's situation, the Hanoi Federation of Labor decided to provide VND30 million ($1,140) in support for home repairs.
In addition, through fundraising efforts organized by the trade union, agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals contributed another VND18 million ($684), helping the family secure additional resources to complete the renovation.
The total support amount of VND48 million ($1,824) carried not only material value but also significant emotional encouragement, helping the family overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives.
Attending and directly presenting the support at the ceremony, Nguyen Huy Khanh, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Federation of Labor, acknowledged and praised the active coordination of grassroots trade unions, local authorities and related organizations in caring for union members.
He emphasized that the "Union Shelter" program carries profound humanitarian meaning and reaffirms the trade union's role as a reliable companion and support system for workers, especially those facing housing difficulties.
At the handover ceremony, Khanh presented the housing repair funding and also gifted the family a standing electric fan for use during the hot season.
Although simple, the gift reflected the practical and caring attention of the trade union organization toward the daily lives of workers and union members.
Nguyen Huy Khanh, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Federation of Labor, presents a gift worth VND30 million ($1,140) to Tran Dinh Quan and his family.
Emotionally receiving the renovated home, Tran Dinh Quan shared: "My family is deeply grateful for the care and support from the trade union organization and generous donors."
"This assistance is tremendous encouragement for us to repair our home and stabilize our lives. Having a safe place to live gives me peace of mind to work harder and better care for my family."
Chairman of the Noi Bai Commune Trade Union Nguyen Duc Thanh said that beyond financial assistance, many union members, workers and local residents also contributed labor and support during the renovation process, creating strong community bonds.
"It is this collective support that strongly spreads the spirit of solidarity and mutual assistance, creating the lasting value of the 'Union Shelter' program," he said.
As many workers continue facing difficult living conditions, meaningful activities like these become even more valuable.
The program not only helps workers secure stable housing but also gives them greater confidence and motivation to focus on their careers and contribute positively to the development of businesses and Hanoi as a whole.
