Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha checks on the Doctoral Stelae Garden at the Temple of Literature.
On February 27, Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha, along with leaders of departments, experts, scientists and consultants, conducted a comprehensive site inspection at Temple of Literature to prepare for activities marking the 950th anniversary of Temple of Literature (1076–2026), Vietnam's first national university.
She directly reviewed key areas, including Van Lake, Khue Van Cac (the Pavilion of Constellation), Thien Quang Well, the Doctoral Stelae Garden and the Thai Hoc courtyard and worked with relevant departments on the implementation progress.
At the meeting, she emphasized that the Temple of Literature is a heritage site of immense historical and cultural value, not only for Hanoi but for the entire nation and that preserving and promoting its value is a responsibility to present and future generations.
She called for a detailed plan for the 950th anniversary celebrations and a development orientation toward the 1,000-year milestone, with clear phases for 2026 tasks and long-term objectives.
Affirming the event's significance, she stressed that it is more than a commemorative occasion. It is an opportunity to showcase Hanoi's cultural heritage pride to the world.
"When opportunity converges, responsibility must be clear and decisive to maximize heritage value in the new development phase," she said.
According to the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports, 2026 marks 950 years since the founding and development of Temple of Literature as the highest educational institution under the monarchy and as the symbol of the nation's tradition of scholarship, respect for teachers and talent cultivation.
The milestone holds national significance, closely linked to the country's history of nation-building and defense.
Vice Chairwoman Vu Thu Ha hosts the meeting on preparations for the 950th anniversary of the Temple of Literature.
The commemorative program aims to honor 950 years of Vietnamese national education, reaffirm Hanoi as a millennia-old capital and a leading center of education, training, science and culture and promote the Special National Relic Temple of Literature, home to 82 doctoral stelae recognized by UNESCO as part of the Memory of the World Register.
With the overarching message "950 years of national education – Inspiring talent for a new development era.", the city demonstrates its determination to uphold tradition, develop high-quality human resources, attract and value talent and implement Central Party resolutions on education, culture, science and technology and digital transformation.
