Nguyen Viet Hung, Director of the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, receives the awards.
Hanoi received two awards of "City with Smart Infrastructure" and "City with Smart Public Services" at the Vietnam Smart City Awards 2024 ceremony.
This is the first time Hanoi has achieved recognition in both fields.
The event was part of the Vietnam-Asia Smart City Summit 2024, co-organized by the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications and the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) on December 2-3 in Hanoi.
According to VINASA, Hanoi has verified and activated nearly 100% of accounts for government officials, party members, public servants, and workers on the VNeID application.
All of the communes, wards and townships across the city are covered with 4G mobile network and fiber-optic infrastructure. With smartphones being used by 90% of the population, Hanoi expects to install some 2,000 5G base stations by the end of 2024.
Hanoi currently hosts 16 out of 33 data centers nationwide. Among five cities designated by the Government to trial the Public Administration Service Center, Hanoi is the first to put the model into official operation.
At the awards ceremony, the central coastal city of Danang received three awards for "City Attractive for Startups and Innovation", "City with Smart Operations and Management (IOC)", and "City with Smart, Green, and Clean Environmental Management".
The city was also honored for the fifth consecutive year with the title "Outstanding Smart City in Urban Development and Management in Vietnam 2024".
Ho Chi Minh City, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City), and Tay Ninh City (Tay Ninh Province) were recognized in the "City with Smart Operations and Management (IOC)" category. Meanwhile, Cao Lanh City (Dong Thap Province) made its debut by winning the award for "City with Smart Education."
This year, the awards received 70 nominations. The judging panel selected 19 winners, including 10 awards for cities and nine for technology solutions.
