The Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi.
Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh on June 6 issued Plan No.157/KH-UBND approving the organization of the "Thang Long - Hanoi Festival 2025."
The festival aims to honor, preserve, and promote the cultural heritage of Hanoi, connecting the past with the present and fostering a spirit of creativity based on traditional culture.
The event will promote Hanoi's image to international friends and affirm its position as a cultural and creative hub, making it an attractive destination for both domestic and international tourists.
This festival also creates a space for cultural exchange between ethnic groups, encouraging cooperation between Hanoi and other provinces and cities nationwide, as well as international partners.
Organizers hope to integrate cultural heritage into modern life through artistic performances, exhibitions, and displays that blend traditional cultural elements with modern technology, contributing to the sustainable development of the cultural industry.
The festival program will feature a heritage festival at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square and the Hoan Kiem Lake pedestrian area, exhibitions showcasing heritage connections and an expanded Hanoi Puppet Festival at various key venues including Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Hanoi Museum, and Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam.
In addition, it will include the International Red River Music Festival, the "Connecting Heritage" masquerade ball, a Hanoi Tourism Ao Dai Festival in Son Tay Town, and art performances at multiple iconic sites across the city.
The Department of Culture and Sports will take charge of organizing the festival. It is accountable for coordinating the overall program, ensuring the quality of the content and script, and managing all procedures in compliance with laws and regulations.
The department will also lead media and communications efforts before, during, and after the event.
The Hanoi Police Department will coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure absolute safety and security, manage traffic, and prevent congestion around festival sites.
The city requires that the festival be organized in a dignified, safe, and effective manner, consistent with the approved scale and aligned with Hanoi's cultural development strategy.
The festival program must be organized in line with significant national milestones, including the 80th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) and the anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025).
Hanoi emphasizes the importance of engaging the community, international organizations, and localities across the country to spread the value of cultural heritage, raise awareness of preservation efforts, and ensure sustainable management and use of cultural products after the festival to support the city's socio-economic development.
The city also stresses the need for widespread and consistent communication efforts before, during, and after the festival to build momentum, foster community bonds, and attract international tourists.
The "Thang Long - Hanoi Festival 2025," themed "Heritage – Connection – Era," will take place from October 31 to November 9, 2025.
The event is set to draw an estimated 10,000 participants at locations including Hoan Kiem Lake pedestrian street, Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Hanoi Museum, Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam Cultural and Scientific Center, Son Tay Ancient Citadel walking street, and Red River Rock Beach.
