On September 5, the Hanoi People's Committee and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand and strengthen cooperation based on six key areas.
The cooperation covers promoting green transformation, responding to climate change, protecting the environment and managing waste effectively, advancing circular, digital, and sharing economies, building leadership capacity and modern governance, and driving public sector innovation with people and businesses at the center.
Within the signing ceremony, Tran Sy Thanh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, and Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, held talks with Kanni Wignaraja, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator, and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific.
Ramla Khalidi, UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam, also attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Kanni Wignaraja congratulated Hanoi on the successful celebration of the 80th National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, which had just taken place in the capital.
She expressed her delight at witnessing the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between UNDP and the Hanoi People's Committee, reaffirming that UNDP is ready to accompany and support the capital across all areas of development and work together on long-term cooperation plans.
Agreeing with her remarks, Chairman Thanh thanked UNDP for its support to Hanoi over the years.
He emphasized that with the assistance of international organizations, including UNDP, the city has made and will continue to make significant progress in developing towards a greener, smarter capital where the quality of life for residents is constantly improving.
Thanh stressed that the areas of cooperation outlined in the Memorandum align closely with the priority tasks of Hanoi's master planning.

Therefore, this partnership will provide practical momentum for pilot projects and innovative initiatives in public governance, clean energy, sustainable transport, and disaster risk management, while creating new opportunities for green economic growth and enhancing the living standards of local communities.
The Hanoi People's Committee believes that the six cooperation areas will yield positive results. It also proposed that UNDP work closely with relevant city departments to translate the Memorandum into concrete actions.
Chairman Thanh reaffirmed that Hanoi's departments and agencies will actively cooperate with UNDP's office in the capital to realize the commitments signed in the agreement.
