On February 14, Party Central Committee member, Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Dai Thang visited and extended Lunar New Year greetings to officers and soldiers of Engineer Battalion 544.

Major General Dao Van Nhan, member of the Standing Board of the Hanoi Party Committee and Commander of the Hanoi Capital Command; Major General Luu Nam Tien, Permanent Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Political Commissar of the Hanoi Capital Command; Nguyen Tien Thiet, member of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chief of the Office of the Hanoi People's Committee; and leaders of Phuc Thinh Commune attended the visit.

Reporting to the city delegation, Lieutenant Colonel Le Van Hung, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee and Commander of Engineer Battalion 544, said the unit operates under the Hanoi Capital Command. It was established on March 12, 1993 and is stationed in Vien Noi Hamlet, Phuc Thinh Commune, Hanoi.

The battalion trains troops, maintains combat readiness, provides engineering support, builds military works and conducts search and rescue missions. Over 33 years of development, it has repeatedly earned the "Determined to Win" title.

The Ministry of National Defense awarded it three certificates of merit, while Hanoi granted three more. In 2025, the unit once again received the "Determined to Win" distinction.

In preparation for the 2026 Lunar New Year, the battalion ensured full benefits and allowances for troops and organized a five-day Tet holiday in line with regulations. It also visited and presented gifts to policy beneficiary families and disadvantaged households, totaling more than VND15 million (US$577.6).

The unit worked with local authorities to host the "Military-Civilian Tet" program featuring meaningful activities. It maintained strict duty shifts to ensure a joyful, healthy, economical holiday and high combat readiness.

In the warm atmosphere of the approaching spring, Chairman Vu Dai Thang asked about the health and living conditions of the battalion's officers and soldiers. He expressed sincere appreciation for the unit's close coordination and support in fulfilling tasks over the past period.

After hearing the report, Thang praised the achievements of the battalion and the Hanoi Capital Command, especially in maintaining combat readiness and ensuring security and safety for major political and cultural events in the capital.

He stressed that during its 33 years of service, the battalion has made significant yet quiet contributions to building and defending the capital. Last year alone, it detected and handled numerous unexploded ordnance.

Over more than three decades, the total volume of work has been immense, helping secure a safe and stable environment for socio-economic development.

The battalion has directly constructed many military and defensive works vital to the city, ensuring facilities and technical infrastructure for national defense. It has completed all assignments in strict compliance with regulations and absolute safety.

On behalf of city leaders, the chairman acknowledged and highly valued the unit's silent but essential contributions.

He commended the battalion for taking good care of military families and ensuring full benefits for troops, while actively strengthening ties with local authorities to build strong military-civilian solidarity and reinforce public trust.

Regarding future directions, Thang agreed with the battalion's proposed tasks and solutions. He expressed confidence that the unit will continue to excel in the coming year.

In response to proposals for additional specialized equipment and vehicles to support defense construction, bomb and mine disposal and rescue missions, Thang said the city has taken note and will consider them within its resource capacity, especially as missions grow more complex and demand modern technology.

Ahead of the new year, he wished all officers and soldiers of Battalion 544 good health, unity, outstanding performance and a joyful, safe Lunar New Year with strong combat readiness.
