Capital residents celebrate Tet in a joyful and safe atmosphere

Reporting on preparations for the Lunar New Year, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Dai Thang said the capital had prepared to welcome Tet in a joyful, enthusiastic and safe atmosphere. Political security and social order across the city have been well maintained.

Care and gift-giving for people with meritorious services, policy beneficiary families and vulnerable groups have largely been completed. The city distributed more than 2.7 million Tet gift packages, an increase of 462,925 packages or 26.89 percent, with a total budget of nearly VND1,354 billion (US$53.3 million), up VND286.96 billion (US$11.3 million), equivalent to 26.89 percent compared to the Lunar New Year 2025.

The city also arranged visits and Tet gifts for 450 disadvantaged households affected by land clearance for key transport projects, with a total funding of VND1.466 billion (US$57,700).

Hanoi has provided free parking at selected schools and locations around central heritage sites to serve visitors. It has also waived single-trip fares on the Cat Linh – Ha Dong and Nhon – Hanoi Station metro lines and exempted fares for subsidized public passenger transport from the 27th day of the last lunar month to the end of the sixth day of Tet, a total of nine days.

The city has opened historical and cultural sites to serve domestic and international visitors and issued a plan to launch the "Tet Tree Planting Festival in Eternal Gratitude to Uncle Ho" for Spring 2026.

Chairman Thang emphasized that 2026 marks the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress and the 18th Hanoi Party Congress. The city has directed agencies and localities to urgently translate the resolutions into concrete programs and tasks for immediate implementation from the first days of the year.

The city has maintained work throughout Tet to accelerate key tasks, including institutional reform, planning, infrastructure development and resource mobilization for the capital's new development phase. Urgent and major projects are being implemented to ensure progress and achieve set goals.

A more beautiful, radiant and civilized Hanoi

At the sacred moment welcoming the New Year, General Secretary To Lam expressed his joy at visiting and extending Tet greetings to Hanoi and shared his impression of a peaceful capital ahead of New Year's Eve.

On behalf of Party and State leaders, he extended sincere greetings and best New Year wishes to officials, soldiers and residents of the capital.

He expressed deep emotion and strong impressions of the warm and festive Tet atmosphere across Hanoi, from streets and roads to flower markets, especially around Hoan Kiem Lake, the heart of the capital, which has been elaborately decorated and renewed. All this creates a more beautiful, radiant and civilized Hanoi.

"We clearly feel the pulse of a capital rising, a Hanoi not only brilliant with flags and flowers but also shining with confidence and hope and glowing with solidarity and innovation in every street and every smile," General Secretary To Lam emphasized.

He warmly praised and congratulated the Party organization, authorities and people of Hanoi on their major achievements in 2025. The capital recorded comprehensive and impressive development results, contributing significantly to the country's overall achievement and fulfilling all 24 development targets. GRDP growth reached 8.16 percent, higher than the national average.

Budget revenue exceeded VND700,000 billion (US$27.6 billion) for the first time, the highest nationwide, contributing more than 26 percent of total state budget revenue in 2025. Per capita income reached about US$7,200 per year, equivalent to nearly VND180 million (US$7,090).

"These figures reflect a strong qualitative shift in leadership methods centered on four pillars that clearly assign tasks to each sector and agency with real-time performance monitoring. I consider this creative and effective. Since the 18th Hanoi Party Congress, the city has strongly renewed its leadership model, establishing a modern governance brand of 'Digital Party Organization – Development-Oriented Government – Pioneer Enterprises – Social Consensus,'" he said.

In the first months of the year, even during Tet, Hanoi recorded notable results with the groundbreaking of four major projects that reflect innovation and development orientation, including a medical and elderly healthcare complex project at Hanoi Medical University in Hoang Mai Ward, a digital technology park and mixed-use complex in Tay Tuu and Phu Dien Wards and two multi-functional urban area projects launched to mark the 96th anniversary of the Party's founding. "This demonstrates the spirit of saying and doing and doing effectively," he stressed.

General Secretary To Lam said Hanoi has demonstrated its leadership role in the new era by working through Tet to shape a 100-year master plan for the capital, addressing urgent issues including traffic congestion, environmental pollution, urban and suburban flooding, urban order and food safety.

"I welcome the determination to face reality and boldly propose a 100-year vision. This is key to mobilizing resources and unlocking development momentum for the capital and the wider region," he said.

He praised the city's determination in implementing the 14th National Party Congress Resolution, the 18th Hanoi Party Congress Resolution and Politburo resolutions issued in 2025, noting that Hanoi organized the implementation program immediately after the national conference.

Emphasizing the high requirements of the new phase, he said Hanoi, as the political and administrative center of the nation, must pioneer the innovation. Each initiative and model implemented by Hanoi should lead and inspire the region and the country.

The city must strive to become a national development center and a strong economic growth pole while resolving bottlenecks and building a new growth model based on knowledge, science, technology, innovation, digital transformation and high-quality human resources.

He stressed that the role of each cadre and Party member, especially key leaders, is decisive. He particularly welcomed the spirit of working through Tet as a demonstration of responsibility in a historic moment. He expressed confidence that the Party organization, authorities and people of Hanoi will overcome challenges and achieve strong results from the first year of the new term.

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, on behalf of the Politburo and the Secretariat, General Secretary To Lam extended wishes of health, happiness and prosperity to officials and residents of the capital and wished Hanoi a New Year of new momentum, new thinking and new victories.

Acting with urgency and without delay

Responding, Hanoi Party Secretary Nguyen Duy Ngoc expressed gratitude for the deep affection and special attention of General Secretary To Lam toward Hanoi.

He said the General Secretary's guidance is both a great encouragement and a call to action for the entire Party organization of the city at the start of the new term.

Ngoc affirmed that every policy must be translated into tangible results that bring prosperity and happiness to residents. The city will act in the spirit of saying and doing and doing decisively and effectively. From the first days of the year, Hanoi is determined to implement the action program for the 14th National Party Congress with urgency and without delay.

He noted that while families celebrate Tet, many officials, soldiers, workers and public servants continue to work quietly to keep the city running and ensure progress on key tasks. Hanoi strives for double-digit growth linked to sustainable development so that residents can fully benefit from development achievements and so that the capital becomes increasingly cultured, civilized, modern and livable.

"Hanoi understands that the capital is not only the political and administrative center of the nation but also a place where national trust and expectations converge. We hope to continue receiving close guidance from the central leadership and strong coordination from ministries and agencies and the support of residents. Under the wise leadership of the Party led by General Secretary To Lam, Hanoi will pioneer and contribute to national development in the new era," Ngoc emphasized.

On the occasion of Spring 2026, he wished General Secretary To Lam and his family good health and success in leading the country.

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam also visited and extended Tet greetings to the family of Professor and People's Teacher Nguyen Lan Dung and Associate Professor, People's Doctor and Colonel Nguyen Kim Nu Hieu, an Outstanding Citizen of the Capital 2025 and former Deputy Director of Military Central Hospital 108.

Earlier, General Secretary To Lam and central and city leaders offered incense at the Ly Thai To Monument and extended Tet greetings to residents at Ly Thai To Flower Garden.
