Hanoi expects the elderly to enhance their participation in digital transformation, green growth, and socio-economic development.
Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Trong Dong on May 14 signed and issued Official Dispatch No.1974/UBND-NNMT implementing the national initiative to promoting the participation of the elderly in digital transformation, green transition, startups, and job creation.
The plan aims to boost these efforts in the context of Vietnam's rapidly aging population. It calls on departments, agencies, district- and commune-level People's Committees, and the Hanoi Association of the elderly to deeply understand and institutionalize the Party's guidelines and State laws regarding the elderly's role in national development.
The city recognizes the elderly as an important resource for sustainable development in the new era. The plan affirms their right to work, contribute, and remain active members of society.
Its overarching goal is to harness the wisdom and experience of older citizens to help accelerate digital transformation, green growth, entrepreneurship, and employment.
Through their participation, the elderly will not only contribute to national and local economic development but also benefit from the progress made.
Hanoi is also aiming to raise public awareness of the elderly's role in society. Government bodies at all levels are expected to create favorable conditions that allow older people to engage in meaningful work suited to their needs, interests, and capabilities.
This effort seeks to improve their quality of life, both materially and spiritually, and encourage them to set an example for younger generations.
The city's approach is designed to align with ongoing efforts in digital transformation, green growth, and entrepreneurship.
It emphasizes practicality and the application of successful models and experiences while adapting to Hanoi's specific conditions.
The Hanoi Association of the Elderly will organize forums, conferences, and seminars to inspire older people and association members to participate in these transitions.
These events will help develop ideas, boost determination, and highlight the contributions of the elderly to sustainable development. Dialogues between elderly citizens, local authorities, and relevant agencies will be held to improve policies that support older people in productive economic activities.
The association will also organize networking activities with successful elderly entrepreneurs and provide training to enhance their capacity. This includes updates on scientific and technological advancements, production and business skills, and management practices.
Additionally, Hanoi plans to build pilot models showcasing how elderly citizens can contribute to digital transformation in production, management, and community activities.
Other initiatives will include elderly participation in green practices such as household waste sorting, organic circular agriculture, and leading environmentally friendly lifestyles within families and neighborhoods.
The city will also arrange domestic and international study tours to allow elderly participants to learn from successful models of elderly involvement in digital and green transitions, entrepreneurship, and job creation.
Relevant city departments, district and commune authorities are instructed to step up communication efforts, especially through digital platforms, to raise awareness of Prime Ministerial Decision No.379/QD-TTg and the city's directive.
This includes informing civil servants, public employees, and workers about the significance of elderly involvement in these national strategies.
The Hanoi People's Committee is also calling on mass organizations, associations, enterprises, and other stakeholders to increase communication and education efforts.
They are encouraged to help create enabling conditions for older people to make the most of their knowledge, skills, and potential, and to take an active role in supporting Hanoi's and Vietnam's sustainable development goals.
