Hanoi plans to strengthen communication efforts and raise public awareness about dengue prevention.
Deputy Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha on May 13 signed and issued Plan No.132/KH-UBND in response to the 15th ASEAN Dengue Prevention Day, which will be observed on June 15, 2025.
The plan aims to strengthen communication efforts and raise public awareness about dengue prevention, encouraging residents to take proactive measures to protect themselves and their communities.
It also highlights the vital role of cooperation among city departments, mass organizations, and local authorities in controlling the spread of dengue fever, with the ultimate goal of reducing the number of dengue cases in Hanoi and improving public health.
A city-level launch conference for the campaign is scheduled for May 23, 2025. Following the event, localities across Hanoi will carry out a peak phase of community-based activities throughout June, with continued monthly efforts in high-risk areas and existing outbreak zones.
As part of the campaign, Hanoi will organize a wide range of public engagement and communication activities tailored to local conditions.
From May 23 to June 15, 2025, the city will conduct a media campaign using multiple channels, including local newspapers, the Hanoi e-Government Portal, websites of city departments and district authorities, public information systems, social media, SMS messaging, and public posters and banners.
Proactive anti-dengue campaigns will be conducted in June and beyond, targeting households, residential clusters, schools, agencies, companies, factories, and construction sites in high-risk areas.
Hanoi authorities have set a goal for 100% of communes, wards, and townships to carry out at least one campaign to eliminate mosquito larvae in June. Widespread insecticide spraying will also be deployed in areas with high mosquito density or clusters of dengue cases.
All schools, agencies, businesses, and construction sites are required to maintain weekly environmental sanitation activities as a key measure in preventing disease outbreaks.
The Hanoi Department of Health has been assigned to guide and support local authorities in implementing disease prevention activities, conducting outbreak investigations, and providing technical support.
The department will also work with the Department of Culture and Sports, the Hanoi Radio and Television, and central and local media agencies to develop and disseminate educational messages on dengue prevention and public participation in ASEAN Dengue Prevention Day activities.
District-level authorities are responsible for ensuring timely treatment of dengue patients and full containment of outbreaks to prevent wider transmission. Local units will also ramp up public communications, especially in June and other peak periods, with a focus on high-risk neighborhoods.
The Hanoi People's Committee has instructed all districts, towns, and communes to develop and implement action plans tailored to local conditions to mark the 15th ASEAN Dengue Prevention Day.
All activities must be effective, community-driven, and capable of generating strong public engagement and participation.
