On February 13, the Cua Nam Ward People's Committee and the Hanoi Book Street Management Board held the opening ceremony of the 2026 Binh Ngo Spring Book Street under the theme "Books bring spring blessings – Welcoming a new era."
The meaningful event promotes reading culture, honors knowledge, marks the 96th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 – February 3, 2026) and celebrates the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo.
Speaking at the ceremony, Trinh Ngoc Tram, Vice Chairwoman of the Cua Nam Ward People's Committee, emphasized that in recent years, Vietnam's publishing sector and reading culture, particularly in Hanoi, have made strong progress.
Many high-quality literary, scientific and children's works have been published and warmly received by readers. This affirms the vital role of books in raising public awareness, advancing culture and building a learning society.
"However, we must continue striving to develop reading culture, especially among young people and create a supportive environment from families and schools to society," she said.
"With great spirit, the annual Spring Book Street at Hanoi Book Street has become a distinctive cultural activity, spreading reading culture and shaping a creative space where positive and humane values are celebrated and shared."
"This is also a meaningful spring destination for residents and visitors during the Lunar New Year," she added.
Children enjoy the festive atmosphere at the event.
The 2026 Binh Ngo Spring Book Street runs for 10 days with diverse activities that promote reading and honor knowledge. The event combines a book fair, cultural and artistic festival and creative experience space, continuing the success of previous editions.
Hanoi Book Street is decorated with a grand entrance, central stage, spring-themed displays and book booths in vibrant red and yellow. Peach blossoms, lanterns, lucky envelopes, parallel sentences and calligraphy are arranged among the stalls, creating a space that blends tradition with modernity. The open layout, green trees and a colorful check-in area offer visitors enjoyable photo opportunities.
The event takes place before, during and after Tet to meet residents' entertainment and book-shopping needs.
In addition to showcasing thousands of new titles across genres such as literature, children's books, skills, history, culture and lifestyle, publishers and book companies offer promotions, lucky book gifts and New Year presents for readers.
Outdoor reading areas along the street allow visitors to browse and enjoy books on site. Families, young people, students and visitors arrive early, contributing to a gentle and civilized spring atmosphere.
Alongside book displays, exchanges, discussions and children's programs take place continuously, creating a lively cultural picture for this year's Spring Book Street.
At the Vietnam Women's Publishing House booth, the program "Sowing Tet Seeds – Knowledge Lucky Gifts" features book combos of one to three volumes, designed like lucky envelopes, making meaningful New Year gifts.
Thai Ha Books organizes the activity "Tet with Books – Honoring Books – Sharing Good Values," offering discounts, 20% off selected titles and promotional cultural products.
Pham Thuy, a representative of Thai Ha Books, said the event provides an opportunity for publishers to meet readers and further promote reading within the community.
On the morning of the fifth day of the Lunar New Year (February 21), Kim Dong Publishing House will host "Celebrating Tet Across Vietnam" on the main stage.
Through stories and interactive games, children will explore Tet traditions in regions such as Truong Sa, coastal towns in central Vietnam, the Mekong Delta and the Cho Lon area, fostering cultural understanding and love for the homeland.

Throughout the event, visitors can also enjoy book fairs, art exhibitions, calligraphy displays, workshops on traditional toys and folk paintings and creative activities at the colorful photo booth area.
In addition, the Spring Book Street features Tet film screenings, comedy performances, musical shows, instrumental concerts and evening music exchanges, creating a vibrant atmosphere. Notably, the music exchange "Hanoi in My Heart" and performances by young bands are expected to draw large audiences.
Under the theme "Books bring spring blessings – Welcoming a new era," the 2026 Binh Ngo Spring Book Street reaffirms knowledge as the foundation of sustainable development. Giving books as New Year gifts and participating in reading and creative activities are gradually becoming a cherished tradition among Hanoians.
Each season, the event contributes to building a healthy cultural environment, nurturing the spirit of learning and spreading the value of books within the community.
