Cai luong artists perform on the stage.
Among crowds strolling around Hoan Kiem Lake, the outdoor stage became a special stop where cai luong melodies, usually performed in professional theaters, were presented in everyday life, close and without barriers.
The performance was organized by the Hanoi Cai Luong Theater, featuring a diverse structure that combined dance, contemporary music and classic cai luong excerpts.
Opening with the gentle and emotional dance "Hello Vietnam", the program guided audiences into a space rich in traditional artistic elements.
Modern folk and traditional songs such as "Que huong", "Mua hoa dao", and "Thang Long diem hen" were performed smoothly, preserving traditional qualities while remaining accessible to listeners.
A highlight of the program was the cai luong excerpt "Tieng trong Me Linh", a familiar work delivered with strong emotion that created a powerful climax and received enthusiastic responses from the audience.
Interwoven were dance performances "Non quai thao" and "Dang xuan", along with a solo performance on the 16-string zither, whose youthful melodies helped maintain a dynamic and diverse program.
Modern musical performances at the event.
What stood out was not only the content but also the performance space.
Cai luong melodies, typically confined to theater stages, created a different experience when brought into an open space.
Audiences could stop, listen and continue their journey, yet that sense of spontaneity allowed the art form to connect with the public in a natural way.
Observations at the event showed that many families chose the Hoan Kiem Lake area and the "Community Music" program as a cultural destination.
Nguyen Van Hung from Long Bien Ward shared that this was a meaningful activity, especially for children, as it allowed them to play and also experience traditional art forms that they rarely encounter.
In practice, when art regularly appears in public spaces, it goes beyond entertainment and contributes to improving spiritual life while enabling equal access to cultural values.
As Hanoi advances its vision of becoming a creative city, developing cultural industries and positioning culture as a driver of growth, models like "Community Music" demonstrate efforts to turn culture into a development resource in line with Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on cultural development and Action Program No. 08-CTr/TU of the Hanoi Party Committee's Standing Board.
Without requiring large scale, the program's consistency, suitable content and open approach have made it a familiar meeting point, contributing to the diversification of the capital's cultural and tourism offerings.
A dual performance at the art event.
From the small stage at the Octagonal House, cai luong melodies on the night of May 3 not only created a memorable holiday performance but also affirmed that when culture is placed in the right position, brought into the right space and approached in the right way, it naturally spreads deeply and sustainably in urban life, helping tell the story of a capital rich in identity, humanity and vitality in today's integration process.
