The Hanoi Metropolitan University on December 13 celebrated its 65th anniversary (January 6, 1959 – January 6, 2024), and the 10th anniversary of its establishment as Hanoi Metropolitan University (December 31, 2014 – December 31, 2024).
This is the only State-funded university under the administration of the Hanoi People's Committee. Over the 70-year history of Hanoi's education and training sector, the university has played a significant role in providing high-quality human resources to support the capital's socio-economic development.
Through its dedication, the university has been honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the First-Class Independence Order, Second-Class Independence Order, and various Labor Orders (First-, Second-, and Third-Class), along with emulation flags and certificates of merit from the Ministry of Education and Training and the Hanoi People's Committee.
"The university has maintained its status, and elevated to new heights, striving to become a multidisciplinary university of the Capital," said Do Hong Cuong, Rector of Hanoi Metropolitan University.
"We are proud to have overcome many challenges and continued to grow into a reputable training institution that contributes significantly to Hanoi's and the nation's education sector."
Deputy Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha presents the Certificate of Merit to the university.
In recent years, the university has prioritized developing its staff by encouraging faculty members to pursue advanced training both domestically and internationally, the rector said.
The school has taken measures to attract PhD holders to join its academic team. Currently, the university offers 29 undergraduate programs, two master's programs, and one doctoral program, with a total enrollment of over 10,000 students, according to Rector Cuong.
"In the coming years, we aim to expand our scale while simultaneously improving quality. We plan to transition all training programs to an applied orientation model," he said.
"Our training will focus on professional application, driven by the autonomy of our faculty members. The university also seeks to diversify its training models and services to meet learners' needs while strengthening scientific research and community engagement."
Under the development plan for Hanoi Metropolitan University, set forth by the city until 2030 with a vision to 2045, the university will grow into a multidisciplinary institution, said Deputy Chairwoman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha.
The city expects the university to continue prioritizing teacher training with an applied orientation, producing high-quality human resources on expectations that the university will become the center for research on Hanoi's culture and people, as well as a hub for science, technology, innovation, and international collaboration, she said.
Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Vice Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council, presented the Government's Certificate of Merit to the university.
"The plan also aims for Hanoi Metropolitan University to achieve high rankings within Vietnam's higher education system and join regional and global university networks," Ha noted.
She urged the university to embrace change in mindset, management, and operations while fostering innovation in governance and developing its faculty and organizational structure to meet the demands of modern education.
The Deputy Chairwoman emphasized the need to enhance the quality of teaching staff, encouraging professionalism, expertise, and creativity to ensure sustainable growth for the institution.
She also called for the effective implementation of the development plan, aligning the university's growth with the capital's socio-economic development.
"The university should focus on advancing training programs, teaching methods, faculty development, research, and technology transfer to meet market demands and align with Hanoi's specific economic needs," she added.
Furthermore, the university should create policies to attract social resources for education investment and explore domestic and international training partnerships."
