Hanoi promotes electric buses

Vinbus Ecological Transport Services Company Limited on June 5 will hold an inauguration ceremony to officially launch Bus Route No. 43 to serve the travel needs of the public.

A representative from the Hanoi Urban Transport Management and Operation Center on June 3 announced the launch of a project to expand the city's public transport system using electric and green energy buses.The project was approved by the Hanoi People's Committee in Decision No. 6004/QD-UBND dated November 18, 2024.

Starting from June 5, the pilot operation of Electric Bus Route No. 43 on the Kim Ma – Dong Anh route will be launched.

Aimed at accelerating the transition from diesel to electric buses and establishing norms and unit prices for currently undefined categories, such as medium- and small-sized electric buse, the Hanoi People’s Committee has approved a pilot order for Bus Route No. 43. 

The move follows a proposal from the Hanoi Department of Transport (now the Hanoi Department of Construction) and will be implemented by Vinbus Ecological Transport Services Company Limited. After completing the necessary procurement procedures, Vinbus is scheduled to inaugurate the new route on June 5, 2025, officially launching medium-sized electric buses into public service.

Basic information on Bus Route No. 43: Kim Ma - Dong Anh Town:

Route: Kim Ma (No. 1 Kim Ma) - Giang Vo - Hao Nam - O Cho Dua - Kham Thien - Nguyen Thuong Hien - Tran Binh Trong - Tran Hung Dao - Quang Trung - Ly Thuong Kiet - Phan Chu Trinh - Ly Thai To - Ngo Quyen - Hang Voi - Hang Tre - Hang Muoi - Tran Nhat Duat - Yen Phu - Long Bien transfer point - Yen Phu - Tran Nhat Duat - Chuong Duong Bridge - Nguyen Van Cu - Ly Son - Dong Tru Bridge - Truong Sa - Dau Canh T-junction - National Highway 3 - Cao Lo - Dong Anh Town (Dong Anh rice mill T-junction), and vice versa.

Bus frequency: every 15-20 minutes.

Vehicle type: medium-sized electric bus, capacity of 60 seats.

Operating hours: from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM

Ticket price per trip: $0.47 per passenger per trip.

The addition of 15 medium-sized electric buses on Bus Route No. 43 brings the total number of electric and green energy buses in Hanoi to 360, comprising 241 electric buses and 139 CNG buses. 

This fleet accounts for 20.3% of all subsidized buses in the network, enhancing service quality while providing a foundation to establish norms and unit prices for currently unstandardized electric bus categories. The move aligns with the Hanoi People's Committee’s approved project aiming for a full transition to an electric and green energy bus fleet.
