Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visits, encourages and extends Tet greetings to environmental sanitation workers in Hanoi
At each stop, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh praised Hanoi, especially frontline sanitation workers, for their efforts to improve the capital's environment and welcome the Lunar New Year 2026 in a bright, green, clean and beautiful space.
After asking about the workers' lives, families, jobs and Tet preparations, the Prime Minister thanked the "silent green-shirt soldiers" who sacrifice personal happiness to keep the city bright, green, clean and beautiful and protect public health.
He encouraged them not only to maintain their professional passion and dedication but also to step up communication and guidance for residents to raise environmental awareness, from disposing of waste at the right time and place to sorting waste at the source and participating in community clean-up efforts, in the spirit of "People participate and people benefit."

The Prime Minister visits and encourages urban environmental workers on duty on Nguyen Thai Hoc Street.
Sharing the difficulties faced by workers who must handle heavier workloads during the days leading up to Tet, especially as waste management becomes more complex in large and densely populated cities like Hanoi, the Prime Minister urged the city and the company to strengthen the application of science and technology, invest in modern machinery and equipment and further mechanize cleaning, collection, sorting and waste treatment. This would reduce heavy labor and harmful exposure for workers while cutting environmental pollution and meeting the demands of the green transition.
He also called for stronger emulation movements, timely commendation and replication of outstanding examples, appropriate wage and bonus policies for workers and regular health checkups and care. Efforts should continue to improve living and working conditions with the goal that each year is better than the last.
Expressing his pleasure at seeing workers motivated by higher incomes than last year and carrying out their duties with responsibility and professional pride, the Prime Minister urged them to remain proud of their work, which, though demanding and often unnoticed, is honorable.
He also called on citizens to raise awareness and join hands in protecting the environment, helping to ease the burden on sanitation workers.
According to reports, during peak days before the Lunar New Year 2026, waste generated across Hanoi is estimated at 9,500 to 10,500 tons per day, up 30 to 50 percent compared to normal days, placing significant pressure on the capital's waste collection, transport and treatment systems. In areas managed by Hanoi Urban Environment One Member Limited Liability Company alone, waste collection reaches about 2,600 tons per day, an increase of roughly 800 tons per day over normal levels.
Hanoi has directed departments, sectors and local authorities to implement a comprehensive plan to ensure environmental sanitation during the Lunar New Year 2026. Many communes and wards have organized community clean-ups, cleared backlog waste sites, increased collection frequency and arranged duty shifts throughout the holiday.
Operators of the two centralized waste treatment complexes have arranged 24-hour shifts to ensure the full receipt and treatment of daily waste volumes while strictly controlling transport vehicles to prevent environmental incidents.
Hanoi Urban Environment One Member Limited Liability Company has added 69 new modern vehicles and electric-powered vehicles to serve the Lunar New Year 2026. It has increased shifts, organized street sweeping and vacuuming, road and sidewalk washing and waste collection and treatment.
The company maintains 24-hour operations, conducts remote quality monitoring through smart camera and GPS systems, and stands ready to promptly respond to and address any environmental incidents.
