Hanoi Police steps up effort to ensure public safety

Hanoi Department of Public Security on the morning of December 13 launched a citywide high-intensity campaign to crack down on crime, maintain security and public order, and ensure absolute safety for the 14th National Party Congress, the elections of the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term, the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo, and major national events and early 2026 festivals across the capital.

The launch ceremony was chaired by Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung, Member of the Standing Committee of the Hanoi Party Committee and Director of Hanoi Department of Public Security.

Attending the ceremony were Nguyen Thanh Lam, Director General of Vietnam Television, representatives of departments under the Ministry of Public Security, the leadership of Hanoi Police, leaders of city departments and agencies and Party secretaries and People's Committee chairs of 126 communes and wards.

During the campaign, Hanoi Department of Public Security aim to safeguard national security and maintain social order and safety without being caught off guard in any situation. The force will continue to effectively implement directives from the Party, the State, the Ministry of Public Security and the city leadership to ensure absolute security for key political events, the Lunar New Year and major festivals in early 2026.

The department will also mobilize the strength of the entire political system in crime prevention and suppression, strengthen the All People movement to protect national security and curb crime and social evils. The objective is to prevent crimes from operating openly or causing public concern and to avoid particularly serious cases during major political and social events in the capital.

In line with directives from the city leadership to address five major bottlenecks, Hanoi Police are assigned to take the lead on urban order while coordinating with other departments to address traffic congestion, flooding, environmental pollution and food safety issues.

To operationalize the campaign's objectives, Hanoi Police have assigned units to implement seven general target groups and ten specific target groups covering national security protection, crime prevention and state management of public order. The campaign will run from December 15, 2025, to March 16, 2026.

To ensure effective outcomes and create momentum for completing political tasks in 2026, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung instructed all units, including commune and ward police, to deploy synchronized and decisive measures to strongly combat crime and social evils. He emphasized clear accountability, intensified operational tempo and proactive prevention to stop crime at its roots and enforce the law strictly without exceptions.

Immediately after the launch ceremony, police forces and vehicles paraded along major streets across the city.
