In his remarks, Principal Nguyen Thanh Binh said the school was established on May 18, 1975, when the former Ha Tay Province founded it under the original name Can Tho Upper Secondary School, named after the province twinned with Ha Dong.

From a small satellite campus, the school grew into a regional institution that enrolled students from 17 communes across the former districts of Phu Xuyen, Thuong Tin and Thanh Oai, expanding steadily over the years.
In 1977, the school was renamed Dong Quan Upper Secondary School, a meaningful milestone in an area once affected by wartime strategic hamlet policies. In 1992, it became Dong Quan General Upper Secondary School and has carried the name Dong Quan High School since 2000.
Over 50 years of development, the school has grown in scale and quality. At its founding it had 12 classes with 447 students, 30 staff members and a Party cell of five members. Today the school maintains between 35 and 37 classes with about 1,500 to 1,650 students per year, and in the 2025 to 2026 academic year it has 37 classes with 1,662 students.
The school's facilities have advanced from bamboo and earth-walled classrooms to multi story buildings, specialized subject rooms, a library, paved courtyards and well kept gardens. In 2024, Hanoi approved an investment project worth VND100 billion (US$4 million) to upgrade the administrative block, renovate classrooms and subject rooms and build a multi functional hall.
According to Principal Binh, generations of Dong Quan High School teachers have upheld their passion for education, and the school has produced more than 30,000 graduates. Many have become leaders, scientists, doctors, engineers, military and police officers, journalists, entrepreneurs and skilled workers who have brought pride to their hometown and alma mater.
Since 1994, the school has had students winning national academic awards and more than 800 students receiving provincial and municipal awards, and for many years it has ranked among the top 200 high schools nationwide with the highest university entrance scores.
Dong Quan High School has long been recognized as an Advanced Labor Collective and an Excellent Labor Collective and has received many emulation flags and merit certificates from the Ha Tay Provincial People's Committee, the Hanoi People's Committee and the Ministry of Education and Training.

In the 2000 to 2001 academic year, the school received a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, in 2019 it was recognized as meeting national standards, it has twice received the Third Class Labor Order and in 2021 it was awarded the Second Class Labor Order, reflecting five decades of continuous effort.
"On this anniversary day, we look back not to rest on past achievements but to reflect on the present and look toward the future. The responsibility now rests on our staff and students, who must continue learning, training and innovating while maintaining discipline and building a friendly and compassionate learning environment so that Dong Quan High School remains a trusted institution and a source of pride for Phuong Duc Commune and Hanoi," Binh said.
The Hanoi People's Committee awarded the school a flag recognizing it as an outstanding unit in the emulation movement for the 2024 to 2025 academic year.
