On November 26, Standing Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan welcomed a delegation from the Korea Urban Transport Committee, led by its Chairman Kim Yong-seog under the Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
Tuan highlighted milestones in Vietnam–Korea relations and noted the shared aspirations for national development and the strong Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He is pleased to see increasing interest from Korean enterprises in investing and collaborating in Hanoi, adding that Korean projects have consistently shown high quality and practical value for the city's development.
He also speaks about Hanoi's aim for economic growth above 10% in 2026, a pivotal year. Infrastructure, especially transport, will play a crucial role, with about 15 metro and rail lines planned, many scheduled to begin construction in early 2026.
The city may adjust its metro network to around 20 lines totaling more than 1,000 kilometers.
Given these ambitions, Hanoi hopes Korea will share its experience and participate in metro projects, transport policy development and green-mobility initiatives.
Kim Yong-seog outlined Korea's decades of metro-development experience. Korea began construction in 1974 and now operates about 1,400 kilometers of metro lines across 24 routes.
He emphasized that metro development must synchronize construction, research, planning and management to ensure consistency and technological compatibility.
Kim affirmed Korea's willingness to cooperate and share expertise with Vietnam and Hanoi, supporting the city in developing a comprehensive plan and deploying effective metro operations while applying Korea's advanced technologies.
Agreeing with his proposals, Vice Chairman Tuan said the two sides would continue discussions.
He assigned the Hanoi Department of Construction, the city's Metro Management Board and the Hanoi Metro Company to coordinate, conduct research and propose practical, effective cooperation directions.
