Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi Bui Huyen Mai and Vice Chairman Pham Hai Hoa handle over supportive packages to the government of Trung Gia Commune.
A delegation of the Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Hanoi on October 10 visited flood-hit areas in Trung Gia and Da Phuc communes.
The delegation was led by Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi Bui Huyen Mai and Vice Chairman Pham Hai Hoa, who is also Chairwoman of the Hanoi Farmers' Association.
The two officials met residents temporarily sheltering at Trung Gia Kindergarten and Tan Hung Primary School. Currently, 350 people are staying at Trung Gia Kindergarten and 100 at Tan Hung Primary School.
At the shelters, they expressed sympathy for the residents' difficulties and encouraged them to remain calm and cooperate with local authorities, returning home only when the water has fully receded to ensure safety.
Inspecting the living conditions, Mai praised the proactive response of the two communes for evacuating residents from high-risk areas and ensuring adequate food, shelter and sanitation.
She reminded local authorities to pay special attention to the elderly and children's health.
Residents said the temporary shelters provided by local authorities are safe and clean, with daily meals and hygiene conditions well maintained.
Volunteers, commune officials and social organizations have provided continuous support. Elderly residents with health issues were assigned caregivers to assist with personal needs.
Due to the impact of storms No. 10 and 11, as of 2:00 AM on October 10, Trung Gia Commune had over 4,000 households with 16,400 residents isolated by floodwaters, including 862 households relocated and 1,400 more requiring evacuation.
In Da Phuc, some 1,500 households with 6,500 people outside the dyke area had to be moved to safety. A railway embankment failure in Trung Gia worsened flooding for 940 households with 3,800 residents.
