Hanoi Urban Railway Line No. 5 has a total length of 39.585 kilometers, including 6.56 kilometers underground, 5.21 kilometers elevated, and 27.815 kilometers at ground level. The line will include 20 stations comprising six underground stations, 12 at-grade stations, and two elevated stations, with eight designed as interchange hubs.

Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro line.
The line will have two depots, one located in Son Dong and Duong Hoa communes and the other in Hoa Lac. It uses standard gauge double tracks with a maximum design speed of 120 kilometers per hour, while underground sections are designed for 90 kilometers per hour.
The project starts at the intersection of Van Cao and Hoang Hoa Tham streets and ends at Station S20 in Hoa Lac and Yen Xuan communes. The route runs underground inside Ring Road 3 before transitioning to at-grade and elevated sections along Thang Long Boulevard.
The project investor is the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board, with a total investment of VND72.3 trillion ($3 billion).
Once completed, Line No. 5 will connect and transfer passengers with urban railway lines 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8. This network will allow fast and convenient travel from suburban areas to the city center.
Scheduled for completion and operation before 2030, the line is expected to create strong momentum for the comprehensive development of the western area while meeting travel, study, and research needs of students and lecturers.
Under approved planning, Hanoi is expected to develop 15 urban railway lines with a total length of 617 kilometers by 2045, with a vision toward 2065.
