Hanoi completes list of qualified candidates for upcoming general election

A handover ceremony was held on February 13 at the headquarters of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi to transfer the official lists of qualified candidates for the 16th National Assembly and the Hanoi People's Council for the 2026–2031 term.

Attending the event were Pham Anh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi and member of the Hanoi Election Commission, and Nguyen Xuan Luong, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Home Affairs and Secretary and member of the Hanoi Election Commission.

At the ceremony, the two officials signed and received the dossiers, including a summary list of 39 qualified candidates for the 16th National Assembly and 205 qualified candidates for the Hanoi People's Council for the 2026–2031 term.

Following the handover, the Hanoi Election Commission will assign candidates to specific electoral units based on the consultation list approved by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi. This step is to prepare for the public posting of candidate lists in each constituency.

The Hanoi Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee will continue preparing voter meetings so that candidates can conduct election campaigning in accordance with the law.

Earlier, on February 11, 2026, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi held its third consultation conference to finalize the list of qualified candidates.

Based on eligibility criteria for National Assembly deputies and People's Council members, as well as feedback and confidence votes from voters, the third consultation conference agreed on a list of 39 qualified candidates for the 16th National Assembly and 205 qualified candidates for the Hanoi People's Council for the 2026–2031 term. There were no self-nominated candidates.

At the conclusion of the third consultation conference, the Standing Board of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi submitted the official minutes to the relevant authorities in accordance with legal regulations.
