Hanoi lawmakers approve the development plans for Tu Lien and Tran Hung Dao bridges.
The Hanoi People's Council on February 25 passed a resolution approving the investment plans for major bridge construction projects over the Red River.
The council approved the investment for the Tu Lien Bridge Project and the Tran Hung Dao Bridge Project under the Public Investment Law No. 58/2024/QH15.
Hanoi will build Tu Lien Bridge and its connecting roads with a total length of about 5.15 km, spanning Tay Ho, Long Bien, and Dong Anh districts. The project is estimated to cost around VND20.2 trillion (US$790.3 million), funded by the city's budget, and is scheduled for implementation from 2025 to 2027.
The project aims to improve traffic connections across the Red River, support urban expansion, ease population density in central Hanoi, and reduce congestion on existing bridges, including Chuong Duong, Long Bien, Nhat Tan, Thang Long, and Vinh Tuy.
Additionally, the project aligns with Hanoi's master urban planning and transportation development strategy. It is expected to enhance national security and defense while shaping a modern urban space along the Red River.
The municipal council also approved the construction of Tran Hung Dao Bridge, which will be about 5.6km long, connecting Hoan Kiem, Hai Ba Trung, and Long Bien districts. The project is estimated to cost nearly VND16 trillion ($626 million) from the city's budget and is planned for completion between 2025 and 2027.
Tran Hung Dao Bridge aims to strengthen Hanoi's East-West connectivity and improve access between the city center and the eastern areas. The bridge will support urban, industrial, commercial, and service development, boosting economic growth and adding to the city's architectural landscape.
The project will also help reduce traffic congestion on existing Red River bridges, including Long Bien, Chuong Duong, Vinh Tuy, and Thanh Tri, making travel between central Hanoi and the eastern districts more convenient.
