The recreation of the Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da Victory.
The 236th anniversary of the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da Victory took place on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year (February 2) at Dong Da Mound – Hanoi's special national relic.
The annual festival honors and pays tribute to the great contributions of Emperor Quang Trung – Nguyen Hue and the Tay Son army, who bravely fought against foreign invaders to safeguard national independence.
Former Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Huy Hieu – former Deputy Minister of National Defense, and representatives of central and municipal agencies, organizations and Dong Da District authorities offered incense and flowers before the statue and temple of Emperor Quang Trung in honor of his name.
During the Lunar New Year of 1789, Emperor Quang Trung – Nguyen Hue led the Tay Son army in a lightning-fast campaign, decisively defeating an invading Qing force of 290,000 troops and liberating the imperial city of Thang Long.
This resounding victory remains one of the most glorious feats in Vietnam's history of resisting foreign aggression, a source of immense national pride.
"The Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da Victory and the great legacy of Emperor Quang Trung showcase extraordinary military strategy, the patriotic spirit, and the indomitable will of our people in the struggle against invaders," said Le Tuan Dinh, Chairman of the Dong Da District People's Committee.
"This triumph stands as an everlasting epic in our nation's history," he said.
Carrying forward the proud traditions, historical legacy, and heroic spirit of Thang Long – Hanoi, a city with a thousand years of civilization, the Party Committee, government, and people of Dong Da District achieved all socio-economic targets for 2024, with several exceeding expectations, Dinh said.
The year 2025 will be one of significant political events for both the capital and the nation, particularly the Party congresses at all levels leading up to the 14th National Party Congress, he added.

Hanoi will also continue implementing the theme "Discipline – Responsibility – Action – Innovation – Development," in line with the Politburo's Resolution 15 on the development strategy for the capital through 2030, with a vision toward 2045, the chairman said.
"Dong Da District will foster innovation, tap into all potential and strengths, and mobilize all resources to build Hanoi into a cultured, civilized and modern city with happy citizens, and propel the capital toward the new era of national resurgence," he said.
Following the opening ceremony, a grand artistic program titled "Dong Da – a legacy for the ages, a future steadfast" was staged in a semi-realistic performance format, incorporating cutting-edge 3D mapping technology.
The historical narrative recreated the Tay Son army's rapid march and surprise attack on Thang Long under the command of Emperor Quang Trung – Nguyen Hue, which led to the crushing defeat of over 290,000 Qing troops.
The legendary victory was brought to life in a fresh, modern presentation, blending dramatic storytelling, elaborate scene transitions, special effects, stirring music, and a variety of performing arts, including singing, acrobatics, dance, mass drum performances, and more.
On the same day, the Dong Da Mound Festival also hosted a series of traditional rituals and performances, including incense and ceremonial offerings by local delegations, a palanquin procession, lion and dragon dances, Binh Dinh martial arts demonstrations, chess tournaments (both regular and human chess), calligraphy exhibitions, and showcases of traditional Vietnamese arts.
The festival will run until February 4 (the seventh day of the Lunar New Year), featuring a wide range of vibrant cultural and artistic activities.
