Hanoi sees breakthroughs in tourism development during festive period

1:54 PM, Tue May 06, 2025

The holiday from April 30 to May 1, 2025, lasted 5 days (from April 30 to May 4). Hanoi's tourism industry recorded impressive growth figures, helping to reaffirm its position as a safe, friendly, high-quality, and attractive destination.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism's report, during the 5-day holiday, the city was estimated to have welcomed about 875.20 thousand visitors, an increase of 18.64% compared to the same period in 2024 (in 2024, Hanoi received about 737.9 thousand visitors). This includes 136.19 thousand international tourists, an increase of 55.35% compared to the same period last year (international visitors staying overnight were estimated at 96 thousand), and 739 thousand domestic tourists, an increase of 13.69% compared to the same period in 2024.

Total revenue from tourists was estimated at VND3.15 trillion, equivalent to $124.74 million, an increase of 25.21% compared to the same period in 2024.

These figures not only demonstrate the rising tourism demand after the city's recovery efforts but also reflect the clear effectiveness of synchronized investments in infrastructure, products, services, and communication by the capital's tourism industry in recent times.

High-end apartment complexes and 4-5 star hotels had relatively high occupancy rates, such as: Somerset Grand Hanoi serviced apartment 99%, Sofitel Legend Metropole hotel 88.3%, Fraser Suites hotel 88%, Apricot hotel 84%. It is estimated that during the April 30 and May 1 holiday, the average occupancy rate of hotels and tourist apartments reached about 69.67%, an increase of 9.27 percentage points compared to the same period in 2024.

At commercial centers, shopping, entertainment, and dining service establishments serving tourists all recorded high visitor numbers and increased revenues during the 5-day holiday.

In general, accommodation and tourism service businesses in Hanoi that meet tourist service standards strictly implemented regulations on security, safety, fire prevention, food hygiene, environmental sanitation, and reporting and temporary residence/absence declaration regimes.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification, many special display events were organized at tourist destinations in Hanoi, specifically: the event "Colors of Vietnamese Ethnic Cultures" held from April 1 to May 4, 2025, and the event "Vietnamese Ethnic Culture Day 2025" from April 17 to April 20, 2025, at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism; the exhibition "KE - Young Design in Heritage" from April 8 to April 16, 2025, at the Temple of Literature relic site; a series of cultural activities in Hanoi's Old Quarter from April 18, 2025, lasting until the end of May 2025; the thematic display "Mountains and Rivers as One" celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification from April 22, 2025, to August 2025 at the National Museum of History; the exhibition themed "The Road to Reunification" and free water puppet performances for visitors from April 29, 2025, at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site in Hanoi; the COWBOY TOWN 2025 festival at Bao Son Paradise Park from April 30 to May 4, 2025.

In addition, with this year's April 30 – May 1 holiday lasting 5 days, public demand for sightseeing and relaxation rose sharply. Localities and tourist destinations across the city proactively developed various diverse tourism products to meet the people's and tourists' entertainment needs, specifically: experiential activities under the theme "Vietnamese Spirit" at Mo Village Retreat; a unique tourism program "Discover Ba Vi's Identity" featuring activities such as: worship culture of the Muong people; hands-on farming with Muong tools and agriculture; painting on ostrich eggshells; herbal wellness therapy by the Dao people. In suburban areas, eco-tourism and wellness tourism products are being strongly promoted. Hanoi aims to build a wellness tourism brand while focusing on preserving cultural values and community-based tourism.

According to statistics from several key tourist sites in the city, the number of visitors during the 4-day holiday from April 30 to May 3, 2025, was as follows: Hong Van tourism area (associated with the 2025 Love Festival) welcomed nearly 100,000 visitors, Hanoi Zoo 88,430 visitors, Temple of Literature nearly 27,800 visitors, Hoa Lo Prison relic site 35,000 visitors, Thang Long Imperial Citadel more than 30,000 visitors, Bao Son Paradise Park 27,100 visitors, Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism about 22,000 visitors, Phu Dong tourist site (associated with the 2025 Giong Festival Week) over 20,000 visitors, Bat Trang tourist site 10,000 visitors, Ao Vua resort 10,129 visitors, Ba Vi National Park nearly 13,800 visitors, Museum of Ethnology nearly 8,300 visitors, Duong Xa tourist site 6,200 visitors, tourist destinations in Chuong My district 17,300 visitors, Duong Lam Ancient Village about 4,500 visitors.

Under the joint directive between the Hanoi People's Committee and the Command for the Protection of President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, the Department of Tourism organized the distribution of drinking water, milk, and bread to citizens and tourists visiting the Mausoleum in 2025. The Department of Tourism offered 110,000 gift sets including water, milk, and bread to visitors to the Mausoleum on major national holidays such as: the Liberation Day (April 30), International Labor Day (May 1), President Ho Chi Minh's Birthday (May 19), and National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2).

This is an annual event with profound humanistic meaning, showing Hanoi's affection for people across the country and visitors to the capital. At the same time, it serves as a tourism promotion activity contributing to the continued construction of the image of Hanoi's tourism as a destination that is "Safe – Friendly – High-quality – Attractive" to meet development requirements in the new context.

Also during the holiday, the inspection team of the Hanoi Department of Tourism developed a plan and conducted inspections at several tourist destinations with large crowds in the city, including: the Mausoleum area and the Ho Chi Minh Museum, the central area of Thang Long Imperial Citadel - Hanoi, the special national relic site Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam, Tran Quoc Pagoda...

At the time of inspection, the agencies and units organizing and managing the tourist sites focused on enhancing facilities, organizing tourist reception activities, ensuring public order, traffic safety, environmental hygiene, and were fully prepared to serve the large number of tourists during the Liberation Day and International Labor Day holiday on April 30 and May 1, 2025. Parking for cars, motorbikes, and bicycles was arranged in designated areas, minimizing traffic obstructions. There were no street vendors, beggars, or cases of tourist harassment. Tour guides wore tour guide cards while on duty, presented tour programs, guest lists, and assignment letters from tour companies (having labor contracts with travel service businesses or being members of professional tour guide associations). During the inspection process, there were no cases requiring administrative violation records.

The positive results during the holiday from April 30 to May 1, 2025 are evidence of the recovery momentum and development of Hanoi's tourism sector, contributing to promoting the image of the Capital as a safe, friendly, high-quality, and attractive destination.
