An area of Xa Dung Commune, Dien Bien Province submerged in mud after the flooding.
Hanoi authorities have decided to allocate VND8 (US$305,000) billion from the city's relief fund to support the affected communities in the northern mountainous provinces of Dien Bien and Son La.
The action aims to support local people after prolonged heavy rains triggered flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in these provinces at the end of July and early August 2025, causing severe damages.
Of the total, VND5 billion ($190,500) will be provided to Dien Bien Province and VND3 billion ($114,300) to Son La Province to help local people overcome the consequences of the disasters, restore production, and stabilize their lives as quickly as possible.
On behalf of the city's leadership, Bui Thi Minh Hoai, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, and Head of the city's National Assembly delegation, sent letters of sympathy and heartfelt concern to officials, soldiers, and residents of both Dien Bien and Son La, especially those living in the hardest-hit areas.
According to reports from the two provinces, from July 26 to July 27 in Son La and in early August in Dien Bien, persistent downpours caused extensive damage to people and property.
In Son La, hundreds of hectares of rice paddies, crops, and fish ponds were swept away. Many roads, schools, and power and water systems were heavily damaged.
In Dien Bien, the disasters affected hundreds of households. Property was lost, homes collapsed due to landslides, and transportation routes were paralyzed, resulting in significant economic losses and disruption to daily life.
Hanoi's timely and compassionate support reflects the strong sense of solidarity, social responsibility, and deep bonds among localities across the country.
It is a powerful gesture of unity and mutual assistance, helping flood-affected communities overcome hardship and rebuild their lives.
