Commenced in September 2008, the Ha Noi-Hai Phong Highway begins at the intersection of Ha Noi’s third ring road, running through Ha Noi, Hung Yen, Hai Duong provinces, and ends at Dinh Vu port, Hai An District, Hai Phong City.
The total investment of the project is VND 45.487 billion (US$2 billion) with a total length of 105.5 kilometers with six lanes and an intended speed of 120 kilometers per hour. The highway could cut the travel time between the two cities by about one hour.
The highway will promote the efficiency of other infrastructure projects such as ports, airports and tourist populations; promote trade exchange, tourism, services and manufacturing in developing regions. In addition, this route also contributed to loading off Highway 5; reducing time and saving money on gasoline for the vehicles; ensuring traffic safety; reducing accidents, traffic jams on the Ha Noi - Hai Phong route.
Addressing the opening ceremony, PM Nguyen Tan Dung praised and highly appreciated the efforts of Ministry of Transport, relevant ministries, sectors, investor, contractors, engineers, workers, and financial organizations to complete the project amid the country’s economic difficulties.
With the full completion of the Ha Noi-Hai Phong Highway, Viet Nam now has 710 kilometers of highway, exceeding the initial goal for the 2010-2015 period by 110 kilometers. Viet Nam has set a target to build 2,000 kilometers of highway by 2020.
