Regarding the environment protection, on May 31, 2017, Hanoi Party Committee issued Resolution No.11-NQ/TU on improving effort for environmental protection in Hanoi until 2020 and subsequent years, while Hanoi People’s Committee issued plan No.160 on July 3, 2017 implementing the Resolution.
However, in recent years, due to the rapid urbanization and a surge in the number of transportation vehicles, among others, the air quality in Hanoi has worsened. In the past few days, the weather became extreme with low temperature and thick cloud, leading to the AQI of Hanoi at “bad” and “very bad” levels, in turn affecting people’s health and other activities.
To improve air quality, Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung instructed local authorities to operate the environmental monitoring system and disclosing the results to the public.
In case of the AQI at higher than 300, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment has responsibility to report to the Department of Training and Education, so that the latter would instruct kindergartens and primary schools to rearrange the study schedule for students. At the same time, the Department of Health is tasked with recommending measures that protecting the health of the people.
In days when the air quality at low level, the Department of Construction must request related units to step up effort in cleaning the roads, while the Department of Transportation and the traffic police should reduce traffic congestion in rush hours and preventing trucks weights over 1.5 tons to enter into the city in rush hours.
The local authority would continue to raise people’s awareness in protecting the environment and planting more trees in residential areas, while people are encouraged to use public transportation services, giving priority to environmental friendly transportation vehicles.
The people should be more active in reporting acts of damaging the environment to the authority for proper action.
