Under the plan, Hanoi is focused on raising people’s awareness in complying with the traffic law, particularly the regulation of “say no to drinking and driving”, and “wearing helmet when driving”.
Additionally, the city strives to enhance service quality of public transportation, aiming for growing the number of public transport riders by 15 - 20% year-on-year in 2020 and fulfilling the targets for public transportation under the program No.06 of the municipal Party Committee.
Hanoi targets to reduce 5 - 10% of total traffic accidents compared to that of in 2019, while pushing for the construction and reparation of traffic lights at 24 locations under the program of reducing traffic congestion and listing 36 work items subject to reparation to ensure traffic safety in 2020.
Moreover, Hanoi also aims to remove 8 - 10 traffic congestion spots, at the same time timely dealing with potential new ones, preventing traffic congestion of more than 30 minutes.
The plan requested related units, departments to step up efforts in ensuring traffic order during transportation activities; strictly punishing drivers violating laws; enhancing the quality of public transportation; intensifying the use of technologies in managing and controlling traffic; establishing the intelligent transportation system (ITS) in Hanoi; raising people’s awareness in following traffic laws, among others.
