Accordingly, after ten years of implementing Resolution No. 16/2008/NQ-CP dated July 31st, 2008 of the Government on gradually reducing traffic congestion in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh city, and seven years of implementing Resolution No. 88/2011/NQ-CP dated August 24th, 2011 of the Government on more urgent measures to ensure traffic safety and order, the work of ensuring traffic safety has made strong changes. Traffic accidents have decreased in number of cases, fatalities and injured victims. Traffic congestion on major routes in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City has been curbed gradually.
However, there have been several existing shortcomings and weaknesses in ensuring traffic safety and reducing traffic jams.
To decrease the number of traffic accidents, deaths and injuries by 5-10% as well as reduce traffic congestion on key routes in big cities, including Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, the Government requested ministries, sectors and localities to strictly comply with legal regulations; speed up the implementation of projects of ensuring traffic safety, reducing traffic jams.
Regarding this matter, the Municipal People’s Committee assigned the Department of Transport - the standing agency of the Municipal Committee for Traffic Safety to take prime responsibility and cooperate with Departments of Planning and Investment, Finance, Construction, Education and Training, Planning and Architecture, Justice, Health, Police, People’s Committees of districts and Son Tay Town, and relevant units to plan to implement Resolution of the Municipal People’s Committee in March, 2019.
