Following the document, the EVFTA was signed on June 30, 2019, and considered a next-generation free trade agreement between Vietnam and 28 EU member countries.
The EVFTA, along with the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans - Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), are two FTAs in which Vietnam offers its highest and most comprehensive commitments to date.
In order to support enterprises, especially small and medium ones, in order for Hanoi people to understand challenges and opportunities from the EVFTA, Hanoi People’s Committee requested departments and people’s committees at district-, commune- and hamlet-levels to raise people’s awareness about the EVFTA through providing related information on their respective websites; organizing workshops, conferences and training courses about Vietnam’s commitments, challenges and opportunities in EVFTA.
Additionally, the municipal Department of Industry and Trade is tasked with promoting the EVFTA and updating information related to EU and Vietnam’s ratification process of the deal, so that enterprises and citizens could have greater understandings about the deal; making a manual for certain sectors and fields about Vietnam’s commitments in the EVFTA, providing information for enterprises for searching conveniently; promoting EVFTA in national and provincial newspapers.
The municipal Department is also responsible for providing information related to EVFTA to Hanoi’s newspapers, particularly Vietnam’s main commitments and key contents of the EVFTA; developing contents and programs on the EVFTA in Hanoi Radio and Television and newspapers in Hanoi.
Hanoi Institute for Socio-Economic Development Studies (HISEDS) is tasked with conducting study and forecast before the implementation of the EVFTA, including solutions for enterprises in anticipation of the enactment of the EVFTA; listing out challenges and opportunities that the EVFTA would bring; publishing the Hanoi - Integration and Development news segment; increasing the number of feature and research articles about the EVFTA.
