The plan states that in 2023, the whole city will plant 200,000-250,000 new shade trees and timber trees on the city's urban traffic routes; 200,000 fruit trees; an addition of 20-30ha of forests; taking care of 3,546ha of planted forests; managing 6,483ha of protective and special-use forests. In early 2023, the city will plant 100,000-120,000 trees of all kinds, contributing to improving the city's forest coverage rate.
In order to realize the plan, the People's Committees of districts, towns, and units located in the city would simultaneously launch the 2023 Lunar New Year tree planting festival from January 27, 2023 to February 5, 2023.
The venue for launching the tree planting movement is at historical sites , culture, new urban areas, public works, schools, hospitals, parks, along roadsides.
The City People's Committee requires the organization of the Spring Tree Planting Festival to be practical, effective, to create conditions for agencies, mass organizations, schools, armed forces and all classes of people to actively participate in tree planting and afforestation. Urban green tree planting ensures diversity in species, maintains development of native trees, adds new varieties and species of imported plants suitable to climate and soil conditions in Hanoi. In terms of tree size, plants must be properly protected and cared for.
Through the movement of planting trees, cadres, party members and people are expected to be more aware of the significance of forest development and tree planting; thereby gaining better understanding of the role of trees in socio-economic development, protecting the ecological environment and limiting the negative effects of climate change.
