HNP - Hanoi People’s Committee issued document No.12283/VP-KTon December 18, initiating tree planting campaign ahead of the Lunar New Year 2020 and in remembrance of President Ho Chi Minh.

The document is in line with the instruction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), requesting people’s committees in provinces/cities to promote and comply with the Law on Forestry, setting up plans to plant trees and regenerate forests, which are part of objectives for 2020 and the 2015 - 2020 period under the national program of sustainable afforestation in the 2016 - 2020 period.
Under the campaign, Hanoi People’s Committee requested each department, unit, and the people to actively participate in afforestation, while local authority is tasked with raising people’s awareness about the significance of forest and forest protection in protecting the environment and minimizing impacts of natural disasters and climate change.
The Committee expected the tree planting campaign to be practical, able to mobilize  the whole society to take part in the process.
The timing of the campaign for northern cities/provinces is ahead of the Lunar New Year, while for southern region, it is on the occasion of the birthday of Uncle Ho on May 19, which is suitable to the season of planting trees of respective provinces/cities.
Meanwhile, it is essential to ensure the quality of trees and seedling, choose suitable trees for planting, and take advantage of favorable weather conditions for higher survival rate of trees; apply technologies in planting large trees and improve the productivity, quality and value of trees; raise responsibilities of individuals and groups in protecting forests and during the process of afforestation.
After completing the campaign, each province/city is tasked with learning from this experience for future campaign, while honoring individuals and groups with outstanding contribution during the process.
The result should be reported back to the MARD for follow up.
