Groundbreaking ceremony for first smart city project in Hanoi (18:11 09/10/2019)


HNP - A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the first smart city project in Hanoi on October 6 in Vinh Ngoc Commune, Dong Anh District. The event is among practical activities to mark the 65th anniversary of the Capital’s Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2019).

The event saw the attendance of Politburo member, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang; PCC member, Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee; Chairwoman of the Municipal People’s Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc; among others. 
 
The project covers an area of 272 hectares in Hai Boi, Vinh Ngoc and Kim No Communes in Dong Anh District. It will connect with downtown Hanoi and Noi Bai International Airport to create a launch pad for socio-economic development.
 
The project worth nearly US$4.2 billion is invested by Vietnam’s BRG Group and Japan’s Sumitomo Group. It is divided into five phases which are expected to be fully completed by 2028.

As planned, advances in digital technologies will converge to enable smart energy management, smart transportation, smart security management, smart classrooms, smart economy, and a smart lifestyle.
 
A management system of smart buildings and renewable energy technology will also be prioritized to optimize energy supply and storage.
 
Besides, the implementation of an environmentally-friendly public transport system will help connect the smart city with  Hanoi downtown.
 
The project is taken as a proof of Vietnam’s commitments to implementing sustainable smart city development project between 2018 and 2025, with a vision to 2030, with the main goal of establishing a chain of smart cities in the northern, central and southern regions, and the Mekong Delta.

Addressing the event, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung stressed that this is the first-ever smart city project to be initiated in Hanoi and Vietnam in general.
 
The project will contribute to dealing with issues of planning, traffic infrastructure, energy, education, health, environment towards sustainable development, and ensuring safe and convenient life for citizens, he added.
