Hanoi targets to plant more than 300,000 trees in 2021 (21:32 22/02/2021)


HNP - The Hanoi People’s Committee launched the 2021 Lunar New Year (Tet) tree-planting festival themed “Forever grateful to Uncle Ho” on February 21 in response to the Government’s program of planting one billion trees in the period of 2021-2025.

Joining the launching ceremony were Politburo member, Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and Head of the city’s delegation of National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue; member of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Permanent Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen; PCC member, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh; Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee and Chairman of the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan; Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Van Phong; Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Hanoi committee Nguyen Lan Huong; and Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Duong Duc Tuan. 
 
In attendance were leaders of ministries and ministerial-level sectors: Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha; Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh; and Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien.
 
Addressing the event, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Chu Ngoc Anh said the tree planting campaign has become a fine tradition on the New Year occasion since it was launched by Uncle Ho in 1959.
 
The tree-planting festival is held annually by Hanoi capital with the active participation of the entire political system including Hanoi authority and people from all walks of life, he added, stressing, the capital city has attained remarkable achievements in carrying out the city's movement of tree-planting and afforestation over the past years.
 
Anh stated that Hanoi has so far fulfilled its goal of planting one million green trees two years ahead of schedule, while planting 600,000 additional urban trees on 250 key roads.
 
Anh took the occasion to urge district-level authorities to widely disseminate the purpose and meaning of the tree-planting campaign, the important role of the greenery, its long-term benefits and the humanistic values of planting, caring and protecting trees among people. 
 
The localities need to launch the tree-planting ceremonies in line with local conditions to ensure practicality, efficiency and avoiding formality, the mayor ordered, calling on agencies, organizations, schools, armed forces and residents to positively respond to the tree-planting movement, making the environment green, clean and beautiful.
 
With the aim of building the capital as a “Green- Civilized- Modern” city, Hanoi Party Committee and authority determine that tree-planting and tending urban greenery system is one of the important tasks in the city's annual socio-economic development plans.
 
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha said in realizing the Prime Minister’s Directive No. 45, and in response to the Government’s program of growing one billion trees for the period of 2021-2025, his agency proposed the Government to boost the green coverage to meet climate adaptation demands. 
 
The minister asked agencies, local authorities, organizations and individuals to enthusiastically join the tree planting, contributing to adapting climate change, improving the environment, and ensuring harmony and balance of the living environment.
