At the ceremony, Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung said Aeon is one of Japan and the world’s leading retail groups with over 260 years of development, 179 joint-ventures and 1,000 super markets in Japan and abroad.
In June 2017 and October 2018, Hanoi People’s Committee and Aeon group signed memorandum of understandings (MoUs), aiming to facilitating the group’s investment activities in Hanoi and promoting Vietnamese exports in general and Hanoi’s in particular into its global distribution network.
Aeon targets to raise Vietnamese exports to the group’s distribution network of US$500 million in 2020 and US$1 billion by 2025.
Under the cooperation, Hanoi’s authority and Aeon have jointly organized trade promotion activities, Vietnam - Hanoi goods week at Aeon’s network in Japan and Vietnam, along with the construction of the group’s shopping malls in Vietnam.

From the rate of Vietnamese goods below 40% in Aeon super markets in 2014, the rate now increases to over 80%, while over 2,600 local enterprises become main suppliers to Aeon with thousands of products.
This showed strong commitment of Aeon and the effort of Hanoi’s authority to raise the quality standards of products, meeting growing demands of local and foreign customers.
The expansion of Aeon distribution network also offers an opportunity for Vietnamese enterprises to become suppliers for over 1,000 Aeon super markets worldwide.
On behalf of Hanoi, Chairman Chung expressed his thank to Aeon for actively realizing its commitments of presenting the city with 3,000 sakura trees, which were planted at Hoa Binh park, the program of planting trees at 35 hectares at Ba Vi National Park in the 2014 - 2016 period, among others.
Chung expected Aeon to continue achieving successes in Vietnam, in turn promoting the Vietnam - Japan friendship.
Aeon Mall Ha Dong is Aeon’s second shopping mall in the northern region of Vietnam, covering an area of 22,700 meter squares. The mall consists of 221 stores varying in catering services, fashion, entertainment and household appliances, among others.
Notably, new brands that are new to the Vietnamese market now make up 40% out of 221 stores.
