Work begins on F1 racetrack in Ha Noi (18:53 24/03/2019)

HNP - The Ha Noi People’s Committee and Viet Nam Grand Prix Company (Vingroup) on March 20 held a ceremony to start construction of Formula One (F1) Ha Noi Grand Prix circuit in Nam Tu Liem District, Ha Noi.

The event saw the attendance of Nguyen Duc Chung, member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee; Nguyen Ngoc Thien, PCC member, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Dao Duc Toan, Deputy Secretary of the Ha Noi Party Committee; Phung Thi Hong Ha, Vice Chairwoman of the Ha Noi People’s Council; Ngo Van Quy and Nguyen The Hung, Vice Chairmen of the Ha Noi People’s Committee;  Ambassadors of France and the Netherlands to Viet Nam; and Jean Todt, Chairman of the International Automobile Federation (FIA).

The circuit will be more than 5.5 km in length, with 22 turns. It will be the world's first combination of existing roads and a part of the planned area of the My Dinh sports complex.  


This track, designed by the Formula One Group and Germany’s Tilke Company, will meet all technical and safety requirements as regulated by the International Automobile Federation (FIA).
In addition, many support works will be built, including a control center, a grandstand, warehouse, parking lot and helipads.
The groundbreaking ceremony is the official start for the world's most prestigious race to be present in Viet Nam next year, contributing to promoting the images of Ha Noi and Viet Nam to the world.
The construction is slated to be completed in March 2020.

Speaking at the ceremony, FIA Chairman Jean Todt said that the F1 race to be held in Ha Noi in 2020 is a chance for the city in particular and Viet Nam general to promote the images to the eyes of international friends.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung expressed his belief that the world’s most attractive race will take place as scheduled and meet the expectations of Vietnamese people as well as F1 lovers worldwide.
He affirmed that this is the opportunity to promote the images of Viet Nam and Ha Noi - A city for peace to the world. 
It is also a chance to strengthen the communication to raise people’s awareness and responsibility for traffic safety issues in an effort to reduce the number of traffic accidents in the capital city and the country, he stressed.
