At the press conference, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung said that US President Donald Trump and DPRK Chairman Kim Jong Un co-chair the second DPRK-USA Ha Noi Summit on February 27th and 28th.
He stressed that the summit is an extremely important event that is drawing much attention from people and the international community as it is directly related to regional peace.
He said that Viet Nam was selected to host the second DPRK-USA Ha Noi Summit, and noting that Viet Nam has completed all preparations in an effort to ensure absolute safety for the event, and Ha Noi now is ready for the summit.
Known as the most important political – diplomatic event in 2019, the second DPRK-USA Ha Noi Summit has drawn the special attention of leaders of Viet Nam and Ha Noi, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung mentioned, noting that Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has positively directed the preparation work, meanwhile, Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung has also regularly checked all preparations for the event.
Viet Nam also wishes to directly contribute to the process of peace talks, he added.
According to the Deputy Minister, on this occasion, Viet Nam wants to improve the role of not only Vietnam but also the ASEAN community in international arena today, and promote popularization of achievements after 30 years of reform as well as the images of the country and Ha Noi as the capital is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO’s recognition of Ha Noi as the “City for Peace” this year.
At the press conference, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that almost 3,000 international reporters from more than 200 news and press agencies in nearly 40 countries and territories across the world have arrived in Viet Nam for the summit. Nearly 550 domestic reporters have registered to report the event.
He wished them to successfully complete their duties, and witness warm welcome, hospitability of Vietnamese people.
According to Chairman of the Ha Noi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung, the city has finished all preparations and was ready for the summit.
A series of art performance shows will be held in the evenings of February 26th, 27th and 28th at Ly Thai To Square ( Hoan Kiem District, Ha Noi) with the participation of well-known artists to serve tourists and local residents, he added.
The city leaders also said that the city’s administration and people have tries their best to prepare for the summit, and deserve the title of the “City for Peace” recognized by UNESCO 20 years ago.
He hoped that international reporters would have the opportunity to enjoy Ha Noi’s special culture, feel the hospitality of local residents, and come back to the city after the event.
