Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan said that Tran Hung Dao Bridge is an important traffic work which will connect the Old Quarter of Hanoi with the new and modern development area in the north of the Red River. Tran Hung Dao Bridge has been identified in the Capital Construction General Planning as one of eight bridges crossing the Red River.
Along with Tu Lien bridge, Tran Hung Dao bridge, located in the heart of Hanoi, is expected to further improve the city’s technical infrastructure system.
With a special location and serving as a link between the Old Quarter with the newly developed urban area, the architectural plan of the Tran Hung Dao bridge has attracted public attention. On that basis, the City People's Committee decided to organize a contest to select the architectural plan of the bridge in order to choose the best option.
The contest has attracted 12 participating units with 20 proposals, from many experienced architects, experts in the field of bridges and roads.
On behalf of the City's leaders, Tuan highly appreciated the cooperation work of the Vietnam Association of Architects, the Examination Council, and related units in successfully organizing contest to select architectural plan for Tran Hung Dao bridge.
“Based on the results of the competition approved by the Hanoi People's Committee, the Department of Planning and Investment and relevant units has been tasked with speeding up the investment preparation, urgently carry out the procedures to implement the project in accordance with current regulations, contributing to the early formation of a really beautiful bridge, suitable for the architectural landscape, ensuring the technical factors, meeting the expectations of the people in Hanoi," emphasized Tuan.
At the ceremony, Head of Hanoi Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board Nguyen Chi Cuong announced the Decision of the City People's Committee on approving the results of the competition on the architectural plan of the Tran Hung Dao bridge.
Accordingly, the first prize winner with code THD12 (DD1188) was selected as the implementation plan for the formulation of an investment project.
The architectural idea is to create a new iconic bridge in the center of Hanoi with two wavy curves on the banks of the Red River, the main arch structure is 2 curves being shaped into the symbol of infinity.
The second prize winning project with code THĐ18 (VT0002) has an architectural shape using steel arch structure. The main architectural idea is the sacred dragon spirit, using strong shaped steel arches.
The plan that won the third prize was coded THĐ07 (TT1228). It has an architectural shape using a cable-stayed structure. The architectural idea comes from the water wave pattern consisting of 5 hanging towers forming the shape of a V.
* Tran Hung Dao bridge is located between Chuong Duong bridge and Vinh Tuy bridge, connecting Tran Hung Dao street in Hoan Kiem - Hai Ba Trung districts to Nguyen Van Linh, Vu Duc Than, Long Bien district.
