Hanoi Mayor meets New Zealand’s Ambassador (21:21 22/09/2022)

HNP - On September 21, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh received New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam Tredene Cherie.

At the meeting, Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that over the past time, Hanoi's relationship with New Zealand's localities in particular, and between the two countries in general, is progressing in all spheres.

New Zealand's agricultural products such as fruits are popular in the Hanoi market.

In the last 2 years, despite the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, the cooperation between Hanoi and New Zealand has been improving. However, the level of cooperation has still not matched the potential of the two sides. Chairman of the City People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh hoped that Ambassador Tredene Cherie, during her term, would strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in general, and Hanoi and Wellington in particular, to a new height.

Chairman of the City People's Committee said that currently, the development strategy of Hanoi is to focus on applying high technology, green and circular economy, so it is necessary to share experiences with big cities around the world, including the cities of New Zealand.

Hanoi is also always ready to welcome New Zealand businesses to seek partners and investment opportunities, he said.

Ambassador Tredene Cherie thanked the leaders of Hanoi for their interest and support in the activities of the embassy as well as New Zealanders living and working in Vietnam over the past time. From 2021, many New Zealand businesses choose Vietnam as a destination for production and investment.

Ambassador Tredene Cherie realized that Vietnam has great potential to develop agricultural products and expand farm produce exports to developed markets around the world. One of the focus of development cooperation between New Zealand and Vietnam in the near future will be the agricultural sector.

In addition, the Ambassador said, New Zealand's development aid will be channeled to vulnerable communities, including a project to build green spaces for young people in Hoan Kiem district so they can recover from Covid-19 impacts.

Ambassador Tredene Cherie hopes that Hanoi will accompany the New Zealand Embassy in many upcoming exchange and cooperation activities.
