At the conference, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh expressed his deep gratitude to the revolutionary veterans, heroic Vietnamese mothers, wounded soldiers, relatives of martyrs, people with meritorious services in the capital.
Thanh emphasized that Hanoi is one of the localities with a large number of people with great merit, with over 800,000 people (accounting for nearly 10% of the whole country). In which, there are more than 6,500 heroic Vietnamese mothers, over 60,000 wounded soldiers; 80,000 martyrs, 13,000 people infected with toxic chemicals and more than 500,000 resistance activists were awarded with medals of all kinds.
Following the teachings of the beloved Uncle Ho, over the past 75 years, Hanoi has always paid attention to the implementation of policies for war invalids and martyrs; fully and promptly implement the Party and State's preferential policies for people with meritorious services.
Along with that, Hanoi has issued specific and frequently supplemented and improved mechanism and policies, such as: implementing caring policies, granting free public transport passes to revolutionary veterans in Invalids and Martyrs' Day on July 27, National Day on September 2; supporting the activities of the Political Inmates Liaison Committee in the area.
Every year, the city allocates a budget of nearly VND500 billion to give gifts to people with meritorious services, thereby, expressing the respect, gratitude and care of the city for meritorious people and their families.
From 2008 to now, Hanoi has mobilized nearly VND450 billion for the supporting fund for people with outstanding merits. There have been 15,271 families with meritorious services that received financial support to build and repair houses with a cost of nearly VND1.5 trillion; 74,565 people were given gratitude savings books with a total budget of VND70 billion; nearly 39,000 people receive care every year with a budget of nearly VND46 billion.
“Such efforts have received positive response and participation of the whole society, becoming a widespread mass movement, a beauty in cultural life, strengthening the great unity of the whole society, awakening and fostering profound human values", Thanh emphasized.
In order to continue to well implement preferential policies for people with meritorious services, the Chairman of the City People's Committee suggested all levels, branches and localities continue to raise awareness, consciousness and responsibility of the whole political system and people in the city on the implementation of preferential policies for people with meritorious services.
Thanh considered this as a proof of sacred sentiment, a noble responsibility, and a factor to ensure progress and social justice; contributing to the implementation of the policy of favoring people with meritorious services.
In addition, the city leader expects the city to fully implement the policies of the Party and State towards wounded soldiers, families of martyrs and people with meritorious services; pay special attention to families of people with meritorious services in difficult circumstances, people with meritorious services who are currently living alone and without support, and families of meritorious people in ethnic minority areas and remote areas.
