Exhibition “Chu Van An - Upper Wall Son Dau” opens in Hanoi (16:26 18/11/2020)


HNP - The Centre for Cultural and Scientific Activities of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam held an exhibition titled “Chu Van An - Thuong Tuong Son Dau” (Chu Van An - Upper Wall Son Dau) at the Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam (the Temple of Literature) on November 16, as a part of activities to mark the 650th anniversary of the death of eminent educator and cultural celebrity Chu Van An (1370-2020).

Showcasing typical documents, objects, pictures, and drawings, the exhibition introduces the life, personality, and educational career of cultural celebrity Chu Van An, and gives an insight into Quoc Tu Giam. 
 
A wide range of activities would take place to honor renowned teacher Chu Van An and promote An’s spirit.
 
The event provides the opportunity for visitors to better understand about Thanh Tri district - homeland of educator Chu Van An; Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Quoc Tu Giam (the Temple of Literature) - where he worked as a Tu nghiep (Rector); Chi Linh - a hidden residence; among others. 
 
The exhibition will run from now until the end of 2020.
 
Chu Van An, who was born in 1292 in Van Thon Village, now part of Thanh Tri District in Ha Noi, is considered a brilliant teacher of Vietnam. 
 
Dai Viet Su Ky Toan Thu, or Complete Annals of Dai Viet, a 15-volume work published in the 15th and 16th centuries chronicling the history of the Vietnamese from 2879 BCE to 1697 CE, describes him as "straightforward, clean, truthful, and not bothered about benefits".
 
King Tran Minh Tong appointed him principal of Quoc Tu Giam, Vietnam’s first university, in Hanoi.
 
In 1370, he passed away in Hai Duong Province.
