Comrade Ngo Thi Thanh Hang speaks at the conference.

Hang hailed the effort of relevant parties in implementing the task of agricultural development and rural areas, along with protecting the environment, contributing to achieving the targets of the new-style rural area building program over the past years.

However, rural waste remains a growing problem, Hang said, noting that only about 5.2% of the total wastewater in craft villages is treated while the rest is discharged untreated.

Affirming that agriculture, farmers and rural development will be still one of the city’s key missions for the next tenure, and more attention will be paid to dealing with environmental problems so as to improve farmers’ living standards and build a green, clean and beautiful city, Hang urged Party organizations, authorities, Fatherland Front Committees and mass organization at all levels to raise their role and responsibility in handling the issue.

She asked relevant agencies to assess the environmental impact in craft villages that have been seriously polluting the environment so as to take advanced technology solutions to reduce pollution, while making a plan on expanding industrial - trade village clusters to move production households out of residential areas.

The Party official requested the city’s entities, based on their functions and missions, to translate the determination into specific programs and plans to improve environmental quality in rural areas.

She assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Hanoi Coordination Office for the new-style rural area program in collaboration with relevant units to build and pilot models of processing solid waste  Generated in agricultural work.

Meanwhile, district- and commune-level People’s Committees were told to strengthen communication work to raise the heads’ responsibility, and the public awareness on environmental protection, and take measures to improve the quality of the environment in localities.

Hang also suggested the farmers should renew their thinking in farming, enrich their knowledge and work with local authorities and experts to apply advanced science and technology in agriculture.

The scientists need to further study the reality of the production situation in localities so as to develop eco-friendly agricultural production models, she noted, asking for their close coordination with local authorities and businesses to apply the research results.
