Government strives to curb spread of COVID-19 (19:35 09/08/2020)

From Hanoi, member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee, head of the municipal Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control Nguyen Duc Chung; Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee and deputy head of the municipal Steering Committee Ngo Van Quy; and leaders of relevant agencies attended the meeting.
According to a report by the Ministry of Health, since July 23, Vietnam has recorded 335 cases of COVID-19 infection, including 37 imported cases, in 13 localities. All cases of community transmission are related to the Da Nang outbreak.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, all localities stand ready for the National high school graduation exam 2020. 
Localities which are placed under lockdown measures due to COVID-19 outbreaks such as the hot spots of Da Nang City or Quang Nam Province in central Vietnam will postpone the high school exam. 
Students considered F1 and F2 across the country will sit for the exam at the same time as students in current disease-stricken localities.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, currently, there are about 100 companies producing medical face masks and protective gears in Vietnam, ensuring sufficient supply for anti-COVID-19 work. 
Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that as of August 6, around 8.5 million people have installed Bluezone, a contact-tracing app. The number of Bluezone app installations  has increased sharply recently, especially in Da Nang, Quang Nam, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi and northern Quang Ninh Province, he added.
Notably, 21 cases of people with direct and indirect contact with COVID-19 patients have been traced through the app, the Minister underlined, asking for more effort to promote the use of the app.
Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the Ministry of Health and localities for their support for coronavirus epicenters, such as Da Nang and Quang Nam. 
Warning of a very high risk of COVID-19 community transmission, the PM asked for greater determination, solidarity and responsibility from the “entire political system”, as well as more drastic efforts over the next two weeks to contain the pandemic, especially in hot spots.
He allowed provincial and municipal authorities, based on local reality, to decide on specific measures in order to promptly and effectively minimize infection.
Medical facilities under the instruction of the Ministry of Health must stay vigilant and take stronger measures to prevent the emergence of new COVID-19 outbreaks, the Government leader ordered.
Social distancing must be strictly implemented in all COVID-19 hotbeds. And fast and precise testing is the key to contain the spread of the virus, Phuc emphasized.
He stressed the necessity to wear face mask at public places and big cities, while demanding the localities to ensure sufficient supplies of face masks for local residents during the fight.
The PM called on all Vietnamese with smartphones to to install Bluezone amidst the complexity of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He underscored the importance to increase communication activities so as to raise public awareness about the COVID-19, while encouraging the public to stay on high alert for the virus, and follow preventive measures.
Concerning the national high school graduation exam, Phuc requested the education and training sector to strictly follow regulations regarding COVID-19 prevention and control in order to ensure safety of the exam.
