According to a report represented by Director of Health Nguyen Khac Hien, on July 29, Hanoi confirmed one suspected COVID-19 case who was tested positive for the virus. The patient along with his families (29 people) traveled to Da Nang City on July 12 and returned to Hanoi on July 15.
Another case suspected of being infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus was a 76-year-old man. He went to central Da Nang City for summer holidays in mid July. While in Da Nang, he went to C Da Nang Hospital for health examination on July 21 and 22. He had no symptoms after coming back to Hanoi but he underwent test for the virus at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Dong Anh District  on July 29. He was tested positive for the virus for the first time.
Soon after receiving information from the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases, Hanoi’s Department of Health requested Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in collaboration with districts of Nam Tu Liem, Cau Giay and Dong Da to handle outbreaks, disinfect the surrounding area, test and quarantine those who had been in close contact with the patients.
Concluding the meeting, Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung praised effort made by relevant agencies in realizing the city’s dispatch 05 on COVID-19 prevention and control.
According to Chung, the task force detected 21,062 people returning from Da Nang, and all those in close contact with coronavirus patients were tested and isolated.
The city mayor asked local residents to stay calm and remain on high alert in the fight against COVID-19, noting that over the past 24 hours, the city has recorded two COVID-19 infection cases coming from areas hit by the novel coronavirus.
He urged district-level authorities to update and announce the list of venues visited by infected people in Da Nang and Quang Nam among local residents so that they could self-quarantine and contact the nearest healthcare facility for instructions.
Affirming that Hanoi was at high risk, the city leader requested all-level Steering Committees to work 24/7 in response to the situation of the pandemic. Local authorities must trace all those returning from Da Nang, test for COVID-19 and put them under home quarantine, Chung ordered.
The Chairman required the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to ensure sufficient medical supplies, especially rapid coronavirus test kits. Hospitals in the city are requested to provide health examination and treatment services in line with COVID-19 prevention and control protocol.
Chung also decided to temporarily suspend the organization of fairs, supply-demand promotion conferences and festivals, among others in the city in line with the PM’s conclusion at the meeting of the Government's permanent members on COVID-19 prevention work.
