In attendance were member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang, Head of the municipal Party Committee’s Commission for Inspection Hoang Trong Quyet, Head of the municipal Party Committee’s Commission for Education and Communication Nguyen Van Phong, Standing Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Council Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Hong Son, leaders of relevant departments and agencies, and members of the Steering Committee.
According to a report presented by Deputy Head of the municipal Party Committee’s Commission for Internal Affairs Nguyen Tu Cap at the meeting, in the first six months of 2020, Hanoi continued to take various measures to detect and handle acts of corruption.
Particularly, the city’s task forces monitored the implementation of openness and transparency provisions in operation in 304 organizations and units. The municipal authorities issued guiding documents on preventing and fighting corruption.
Due attention has been paid to detecting and handling cases of corruption. Inspection Committees at all level inspected 34 Party organizations and disciplined 59 Party members.
In terms of investigation, prosecution and trial of corruption cases, in the first half, the Police invested 34 cases involving 69 people, prosecuted 8 cases involving 26 offenders.
The municipal People's Court opened first-instance trials on 11 cases with 37 defendants and held appeal trials on 4 cases with 10 defendants. The city also seized assets worth more than VND36.3 billion (US$1.5 million).
Addressing the meeting, Secretary Hue praised the Steering Committee and relevant agencies for their efforts in combating corruption over the first six months.
He lauded strong changes in dealing with complaints and denunciations as well as complicated corruption cases in the city.
Additionally, the municipal government has strengthened administrative reform and brought into full play the inter-sectoral coordination mechanism in serving local people and businesses, the Hanoi Party chief stressed.
However, Hue pointed out shortcomings and weaknesses relating to investigation, prosecution trial and enforcement of court rulings.
Concerning major tasks for the remaining months of the year, the city leader urged the Steering Committee to increase communication activities on the fight against corruption, waste; and strictly implement the working regime of cadres working in corruption-prone areas, such as land administration and customs.
