Hanoi celebrates 70th anniversary of Traditional Day of Vietnam Youth Volunteer Force (21:34 13/07/2020)
At the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Association of Hanoi’s Former Voluntary Youth Duong Thi Vin recalled during the war against the US, thousands of Hanoi’s youth volunteered to the front. On July 11, 1965, Hanoi Youth Union established the city’s Voluntary Youth against the US with 1,500 members, comprising workers, farmers, students, monks, among others. The main objective of the organization was to build road and ensure smooth transportation in any circumstances.
In the 1965 - 1970 period, the organization has participated in building four strategic routes No.15, 22, 22B and 10 East Truong Son mountain range with length of 55 kilometers, as well as clearing thousands of bombs and mines of all types.
During the period, 48 members have sacrificed their lives to ensure smooth thoroughfare during the war. After completing their tasks, members of the organization returned to their localities and continued to contribute to local socio-economic development.
Nguyen Ngoc Viet, Secretary of Hanoi Youth Union said the city’s Voluntary Youth had played a big part in the country’s victory. On this occasion, Hanoi Youth Union presented 23 charity houses for social beneficiaries in Hanoi.
Additionally, 48 gifts have been given to 48 families of martyrs, while their family members would be given free health checkup and medicine.
