Under the resolution, tuition fees for nursery, primary, secondary and high schools in the 2020 - 2021 school year will stay the same as the previous school year. The fees are considered affordable for urban households.
Particularly, children under five years old from kindergartens and pupils at high schools living in urban areas, will be charged VND217,000 (US$9.3) per month. Rural and mountainous students will have to pay VND95,000 (US$4.05) and VND24,000 (US$1.02) respectively.
Monthly tuition fees for five year old children, pupils at primary schools and secondary schools will be VND155,000 (US$6.62) in urban areas, VND75,000 (US$3.2) in rural areas and VND19,000 (US$0.81) in mountainous areas.
The fees for undergraduates from North Thang Long Economic Technical College and Hanoi Technical Informatics College in the 2020 - 2021 academic school will stay the same. They will pay from VND750,000 to VND900,000 (US$32.05 - US$38.46) per month.
Regarding the proposal on keeping tuition and fees for all students unchanged for the coming school year, Director of Department of Education and Training Chu Xuan Dung said that the COVID-19 pandemic has had strong impact on Vietnam's economy, affecting local workers and the decision to keep the tuition fees unchanged is aimed at relieving their burden.
According to Dung, the fees are affordable for the resident in the context of the COVID-19 crisis.
